####, @Oxbow. A bench vise with as wide a set of jaws can get. Mounted on a bench where you can lay the sickle bar ("blade")in it and move left to right or reverse. Just crack the vise enough to drop the blade/s down into the vise's throat. Steady the whole assembly with your left hand, knock hxll out of the blade plate back (top to you) and it will shear cleanly and drop into the vise's throat. shift over one segment and repeat.
Using this setup, I will clear a 7 foot blade while you are hunting your cold chisel.

Finally got the right blower motor Friday, installed it Saturday, and this time made sure I bench tested it once it was screwed in before installing the other stuff, just to make sure it wasn't hitting anything. Success. Now I have to see about replacing a lot of vacuum tubing and see if that doesn't revive the HVAC actuators, and make sure everything else is working (4WD for instance) that is vacuum operated. Still going to have to do some detective work on that transimission gear selector cable, because I can't get a straight answer out of what documentation there is, so I may have to take it out for comparison. Got the rear spring shackles to do too, but...all that has to wait as I have a eye appt tomorrow and I may start on that concrete tear out work after that. Where did the time go? Busy summer turning to busy fall.

Indeed, but out in the far end of the county a long way from the closest vice, as a 14 year old lad just trying to do as asked, I did not entertain suggesting an easier way to perform the task to a 70 year old man that hadn't slowed down since we began.
As I recall we had a couple of short pieces of railroad iron to beat on out in the stubble.exhausted379, cke, CAXPT and 10 others Thank this. -

It is. At least I was going down the west side. I haven't paid attention to miles, but it seems the steep is a lot longer on the east side than the west.
