Quart can of kerosene in left hand, 3 inch wide used old paint brush in right, Dip and slosh off the brush all around the edge of the valve cover. Let set to soak 20/30 minutes. If air, then blow all clean. No air, water hose pressure will do an acceptable job, if neither, and it dried by now. Poke and jab with a good stiff brush till gone.
Brushing outward is possible. BUT. To go out, ya gotta have gone in. And you put back minute particles from the brush as you regain position.
Then there is times you just scrape off all you can get too; and lift it carefully, stuff in some rags. Fix it and run it a long time till rebuild time...Feedman, broke down plumber, Big Road Skateboard and 7 others Thank this. -
8 inch Fairbanks pump intake, 12 inch well, cased 100 feet Minny/Moe skid engine twisting it into pond. Gardner/Dvr 4" putting it out to the lines. Shades of pasture irrigation down home in the 50's. I hauled the pump from Fairbanks in Stuttgart and the pipe from Choctaw in Memphis to West Point in a nearly new KB6 IH grain truck. 16 and 1st time Memphis as a driver.
6" feed line to fields, 4 in lines with sprinkler heads. Move by hand 30 feet every 2 hours, kept 80 of 120 acres knee deep in KY31 Fescue and Ladino clover. Young man then,70 years ago.Last edited: Oct 2, 2025

@Isafarmboy ..You sound like a man I could have worked for in the day. Had to stop work to go in and feed , then patch, fix, overhaul a couple of things that needed it. Tote in some wood for the stove and some coal for the heaters. Could ride our horses on Saturdays for fun, and some pliers, staples, a claw hammer and smooth wire in saddle bags. That water gap was loose on one end Daddy thought...
How far are you from W. Lafayette? Grandson is at Perdue. His mother(my youngest and a lawyer,) took him around 4 different campuses to shop for a school. He picked Perdue over OH State, Ole Miss, UK (home) and somewhere up east in VA.
Decision maker was: " Perdue had the prettiest girls', Grandad..." Charlie Camp will go far in life, got a sharp eye for advancement...CAXPT, Feedman, broke down plumber and 10 others Thank this. -
