@Sons Hero.. Second shot at my missent...
You sound like a man I could have worked for in the day. Had to stop work to go in and feed , then patch, fix, overhaul a couple of things that needed it. Tote in some wood for the stove and some coal for the heaters. Could ride our horses on Saturdays for fun, and some pliers, staples, a claw hammer and smooth wire in saddle bags. That water gap was loose on one end Daddy thought...
How far are you from W. Lafayette? Grandson is at Perdue. His mother(my youngest and a lawyer,) took him around 4 different campuses to shop for a school. He picked Perdue over OH State, Ole Miss, UK (home) and somewhere up east in VA.
Decision maker was: " Perdue had the prettiest girls', Grandad..." Charlie Camp will go far in life, got a sharp eye for advancement...

That is a "B" John Deere, easy as it is on the hood there. What is noted by the old man's discerning eye is the electric start. No electric, could see a bare flywheel, with inside depressions for your fingers to fit while you jerked it started. Think an "B" ="H" in IH, and a "A" = "M" in IH, and "G' I suppose was a "Super M" in IH.
Anyone know, if it came new with electric start, did it have the compression release petcocks installed? Most of ones we used were hand start.CAXPT, Feedman, broke down plumber and 3 others Thank this. -

Yes it has compression release on both cylinders, it’s a 1945 model. You are correct the hand start version did not have a shield around the flywheel.
I’m thinking the Farmall M & JD G were comparable in hp size, about 33-36 hp…?CAXPT, Feedman, broke down plumber and 5 others Thank this. -
Well; When you tie a skid engine to a well head and set a 500 gal propane tank the hose length away, check the oil and crank it.
It is come, bleed, or blister time. There is no slack from the time the bottom impeller loads till you shut it down in the morning to check oil and water. No breaks like a welder or a genset...CAXPT, Feedman, broke down plumber and 3 others Thank this. -
