So I watched this video about how DG opens a new store with bargain prices, but raises prices without changing the prices displayed on the shelf. My curiosity piqued since I shop at DG for many items, I decided tonight I would hit a DG on the way back from dinner.

I photographed the shelf price display for each item purchased and compared it with the price from the register receipt. Keep in mind that I shopped at a DG near Malvern, Arkansas and not from one of the states mentioned in the video.

As it turns out, there was a price discrepancy on an item I purchased. It was the Clorox wipes priced at $5.95 versus the shelf display price of $5.75.

I went to pay for my stuff, grabbed my receipt (along with bread I stole), and headed to my truck. Studying the receipt, I discovered the price difference of twenty cents for the Clorox wipes. That's when I also noticed I hadn't paid for the bread.

While being rung up, I snatched the bread away from the clerk before he could ring it up.
So I brought the bread back in to pay for and informed the clerk of the price discrepancy. He said that they were busy and hadn't yet finished changing the price tags and showed me a sheet of price stickers they were to put on the shelves. This is consistent with the intentional understaffing done by DG corporate mentioned in the video.

I told the clerk of the video I watched and was aware that the clerks are given no guidance on how to handle the price discrepancy previously described.

Heckuva business model. Gipping customers nickles and dimes here and there.

The kicker for me is how no one is being held responsible by not being directly charged with a crime, but rather being fined, which then just becomes a cost of doing business. It may as well be a mafia-style shakedown. It's our government violating its own RICO statutes.

Broad provisions: No actual consumer protection. The penalty is a fine which goes back to the government essentially making the fine a double tax with no benefit to the consumer harmed by these shady business practices.

Keep watching football and we'll colonize Mars in fifty years.

You know what has me wondering?
Credit cards need nothing in the way of ID to use anymore. OH, sometimes you have to sign your name with the etch-a-skech thing but most of the time not even that.....oh and you can sign a smley face and its accepted.
So what happens if your card is stolen and the theif uses it, before a person notices it? Is it even reported? I would call the CC but, What can be done? Nothing that I know of.

Thats great that you went back and paid for the bread. You had already made a clean get a way with the dough .....and you paid for it. Good for you.

The stores were getting caught doing that in Quebec, there has been a consumer protection law in place for around 10 years that says “if the item costs less than 10 dollars and is priced incorrectly it is free, if more than 10 dollars you get double the difference taken off the price.” And magically the stores started to stay on top of things

Remember when everything at a DG was actually a dollar. Been a while.

Ya it’s not even in Dollar Tree anymore. They had to go up to $1.25. I admit I’m surprised they can make money even at that though.
