Im only 55 but I can not do what I use to be able to. Health problems can happen at any age but things just dont work the same for me as they did at 25. I cant just snap back for a hard day of work.

Retirement Investing should be a required course to graduate highschool. Just $100/mo. from age 20 to age 65 in an S&P500 fund will make you a millionaire. This is information I wish I had at 20yo.Knucklehead, ncmickey, Friend and 3 others Thank this.

Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Illinois all have required classes on "life skills". Some concepts are also required units in other classes - ie compound interest is covered in math at least twice between 6th and 11th grade.
Problem is too many kids don't internalize the lessons. Those that do will often say "I'll start saving next year", but next year never comes.
Every couple of years on here there's posts about "i don't work over time because I end up paying more in taxes than I earn". Even when you run the numbers for them and detail exactly why/how its wrong - they still don't change their mind. You can lead a horse to water. . .Knucklehead, nextgentrucker and Lonesome Thank this. -
A million dollars in 45 years will keep you in the poor house, but better than nothing.
Friend and nextgentrucker Thank this. -
I’m 42 and rode moto for years, in to my 30’s until a nasty shoulder injury finally put an end to it, I feel every bit of 42, still think I’m as good as I once was though
Knucklehead and nextgentrucker Thank this. -
I spent K-11 in an above average IL district, and graduated from HS in VA, I don't recall either one having a "life skills" class, unless Home Ec in JH counts. I took home economics and learned how to cook and sew, never learned anything about taxes or compound interest until after I was out. Maybe it's a recent requirement, I graduated 30yrs ago.Knucklehead, Friend, drvrtech77 and 2 others Thank this.
