I'm in cdl school just starting out and a had a few questions about everyday hygiene:

Do most drivers brush their teeth in the truckstop bathrooms or do they do it outside with a bottle of water - camping style? (Seems like that could be a problem if its raining or middle of winter.)

If you have to go to the bathroom at night, do most just go in a bottle or make the trek inside a truckstop restroom? Any drivers carry a porta potti with them- maybe that's the best solution?

In the truckstop showers are there also sink/toilets in the room or just the shower?-

Thanks in advance for your help!

It depended on how clean the facility was. if it was clean I'd brush my teeth and that kinda stuff in the bathroom, if it was nappy, I'd just go back out to the truck and improvise with a bottle of water.

You'll find out there are lots of drivers who just forgo the whole hygiene bit......

One incident that both grossed me out and gave me a laugh was at the Flying J in Valdosta, GA years back. A rather portly dude was standing in the bathroom buck nekkid giving himself a ##### bath. He saw me walk in, I instantly turned around and walked out, as I was walking out, he said "the #### shower costs too much can you blame me for trying to save a dollar?" At least I saved a few bucks by not buying food for the next few hours!

Back when I was OTR, I always went inside to use the facilities provided by the truck stop. They are there for a reason, and besides...it's good exercise.

Those facilities differ truck stop to truck stop. Most the showers do have sinks and toilets in them...some are just showers. Either way, though, you can get cleaned up.

There are also drivers who are too lazy to walk their sorry butts inside to use the facilities, and that fact is obvious by the stench of urine in the parking lots that you get to smell all night as you try to sleep.:biggrin_25516:

If I do my thing in a bottle it gets thrown out properly not poured out for others to have to walk thru.

Why am I gonna lie to you all, when your on the road for a while with no pickle parks in sight and truck stops, when you gotta go you gotta go. I've squatted between the drives with the cheeks pressed against the sidewalls, besides it is biodegradable isn't it?:biggrin_2556:. Of course I carry sanitize wipes. Anyways, let's keep it short, Just be prepared like your going camping, and when you run into sanitize facilities, USE THEM !!:biggrin_25523:

I forgot to add my 4.5 Cents on the bathroom question......

Like everyone else here, I always walked to the head, but there's times either being stuck in traffic or just being too cold to get out, then you improvise. But I've never just stepped out of the truck and let it fly. It's common to see it at the fuel island and it sucks when you pull up to fuel, get out of the truck and you know darn good and well that's not washer fluid you just stepped in. That's why most fuel islands smell like an overflowing litter box. Thankfully I've never ran across any steamers while fueling.

Yaknow...when my great grandaddy bought his first house with indoor plumbing, the FIRST thing he did was build an outhouse out back....because you don't do THAT in the house!

I feel the same way about my truck. There are some things I just won't do in it.

Well when its 3am and its colder than a well diggers backside I will do what I need to esp if I am in my drawers. I usually am not parked at a place where they have facilities.
