Ive been looking at various laptop companies that sell a laptop with adapters. Ive been looking to pull the trigger for a few months and reading various threads on here. I have a glider a W9 with a 1996 Detroit 12.7.

Im looking for a laptop with full dealer capabilities. Im assuming id have to pay a yearly subscription because I dont want anything thats been pirated and id need the ability to update the software.

Im kinda just as clueless now as I was at the beginning. I need a laptop that has everything. I will also have a 14l Detroit also so ill need the ability to diagnose and do everything on my older engines as my newer ones....

    Any suggestions??

Edit to add: I want a "if the dealer can do it, so can I type laptop/programming"

At a bare minimum, you can head on over to eBay, and search on keywards such as, "DIESEL TOUGHBOOK".

Panasonic Toughbook has had a pretty strong grip on much of the computer tech for diesel trucks.

The big question is whether you can find the particular software package which you need.

But, again, head on over to eBay, and search on whichever particular software package you're looking for.

And then of course there are the various cables & connectors which you will need [many of which will be available at eBay].

Also keep an eye on Craigslist; every once in a while, you can find really neat stuff on Craigslist.

Those are the places im trying to avoid. I know they may be cheaper but, they also come with no support or guarantees.

You don’t need yearly updates unless you plan on opening a shop and plan on working on trucks that are new model years. The draw back to mine is 27 and forward it won’t be compatible if they change software. On a 12.7 or 14L that’s not going to happen. As far as pirated software, well DD can gfym

Ok, I assumed the "having to have a yearly subscription " part. I cant interpret "gfym" :)

Diesel Scanners seems to be one of the easiest ones to understand. So it can work on older(my 96) as well as newer...newer to me is like 2004-2016?

Most guys I know around here have 12.7's or 14L. I

It will do everything from 2026 and down. Cat, Cummins, Detroit. As we as several equipment manufacturers. Also does ford,gm,dodge. Also has Jpro. So you can diagnose many others.
