Haters are going to be beneath you. If you don’t have CDLs, you don’t have haters. Why the discouraging talk then?
You’ve been around TTR a few years. Right now, there are threads asking
Where are the best places in the country to drive? Can I be successful as a lease operator? Why trucking when it’s high risk? Stupid question. Apparently someone has the mindset of getting paid by a company to be on holiday. Doesn’t work like that. First
A. Become good at what you do. Second
B. Make yourself valuable. How? The industry is flooded with fat, effeminate sidewalk sissies who have to call their dispatcher every single day to go full diva mode and complain about everything that’s not related to Cheetos, porn and pocket pool. Show yourself to be competent. Dispatchers will unconsciously pile the difficult runs on you. Sounds crappy, but eventually the operations manager learns that you are the driver who never drops the ball. Next time you go by the office, the operations manager says HELLO and calls you by name.
C. Make them pay you. Contrary to popular belief, trucking is a performance industry. Every company, mega carrier or mom and pop, has their average drivers and top drivers. Top drivers make 2X average, driving the same trucks and working with the same parameters as average. If you are average, you have no haters. If you are at the top of the pile, everyone average hates you. Third
D. Hide your cards. Everyone around you is hating. If you’re the go-to driver when the operations manager has problems, do not tell anyone. If your truck is governed at 73 and everyone else company wide is at 68-70, ####. Do not tell a soul. Especially be cautious of another person who works for the same company that you do.

It has little to do with all of that but more to do with fighting the abuse that new drivers go through.
We have a revolving door employment system. Right now, we still have too many drivers and not enough work. We need a serious reduction in labor and a very serious reform in training, but most of all, we need to have this be considered a profession, just like other skill trades. If a cake decorator or someone who does pedicures is considered a professional, why isn't this?hope not dumb twucker, wis bang, jdchet and 1 other person Thank this. -
Not really, most just don’t want to see someone drop thousands of dollars at a steering wheel holding simulator school because that school said “Oh that’s nothing. Why, we’ve had students with worse records get 4 job offers!”
And BTW, with 3+ decades driving, I don’t feel threatened. -
When they come in with expectations of making more their first year then oil haulers do after 30 years.Sons Hero Thanks this.

So all these jobs on indeed advertising "$1300-2000" a week with 1-2 years exp are lieing then? Granted most of them wont hire OVI, but if my record was squeaky clean you are saying that you can't make that kind of money in that time frame?
Take a look at this guy. Even an illegal alien can drive legally. Some company had to insure him otherwise he would have gotten pulled over much sooner and people wouldn't have died. If companies are willing to hire felons, I don't see how that is any more riskier than hiring someone who is accused of basically being drunk in their car while not moving. In fact, the latter shows more restraint which is an indication of less risk to make poor judgements. Hell just drinking in an RV can be considered P.C. which is B.S. I don't deserve to be put into a category with actual ####### and prevented a lifestyle that I deserve more just because I chose not to drink and drive.

Dosel, sounds like you work with a decent company. Ask them what can you do to move up the ladder outside of driving. When you run into a wall, dont back up and run into it again. Back up and go around it. There are many other careers than driving a truck.
Wishing you the best.wis bang Thanks this. -
Depends on the job but it's highly unlikely. In time. You'll learn which ads are legit and which ads are legit but come with broken promises.

I'm sure there are plenty of jobs out there better than truck driving like my current one where I work half the year and make median income as a technology integrator. But I specifically want to be a truck driver because it is a steady career that has a predictable daily routine with travel and plenty of isolation which are all things that sound good to me. Everything people say that sucks about this industry I look at as a pro. That's why I feel I deserve this job more than these Indians that can't even read a street sign. So we will see if spending $3,000 on school is going to be a waste of money or not
