I’m having no luck with companies and getting issued a decent truck. Looking for opinions on this tire. Shop said it’s ok. Just keep an eye on it.

Does your company know your screen name on this forum and are you 300% certain? I ask because if you accidentally run over something and the hole in the tread is too close to the tread/sidewall edge then it cannot be repaired and must be replaced. If your company MIGHT know who the real person behind your screenname is then don't respond to my message. Just use the information, if you understand what I am saying without saying it in so many words.
hope not dumb twucker, nextgentrucker and JForce28 Thank this. -
Don't mess around when it comes to steer tires.
No go.FullMetalJacket, Dave_in_AZ, hope not dumb twucker and 9 others Thank this. -
The companies shop, or an outside shop? Looks like a new trailer tire to me. I'm sure there's belt damage, and DOT would shut you down for that. Remember, it's YOUR call, you are the driver behind that tire. I'd say replace the tire or I'm not going anywhere. Looks like a newer tiire, but dat's trucking. They'll get over it.

The companies shop.Albertaflatbed and 201 Thank this.

That figures, I know it's a tough call, and if it was inside on the trailer, it will last for years, but on a steer tire like that, it's like walking around with your zipper open, obvious as heck. Really, don't mess with this, a REAL tire shop, even though they want to sell tires, will agree.
See, these companies are so strapped for cash, they'd rather risk your life and possibly others and run a tire like that, and deal with "after it happens", and you don't want to be the bad guy, we understand, but in the end, it's your aXX, there are plenty of jobs.Last edited: Nov 1, 2025

Hey, you could "volunteer" at a weigh station, get shut down and they'd have to have a service call, like I say, in a way, you can't blame them too much, but tires are the 1st thing to go, and it's a safety issue, they can't argue with that.
tarmadilo, hope not dumb twucker, Albertaflatbed and 2 others Thank this. -
Even though that sounds nice, it would still count against the driver and company.hope not dumb twucker, Albertaflatbed, Big Road Skateboard and 1 other person Thank this.

Any suggestions? Would you or let any of YOUR drivers run on this?
