I have been reading this thread and it is very informative. I would like to know how you find out what the average FSC is. One poster said you need to negotiate with the agents to get the whole FSC. So, my question is where do you find the FSC?

In general a FSC is based on $1.10-$1.20 a gallon. Anything over that is the fuel surcharge. For example: $1.20 is the price per gallon its based on and fuel is $3.00 a gallon the fuel surcharge would be .30cpm assuming they are using 6mpg. Everyone does it different. I don't know if each agent has his own calculation or its standardized for all Landstar agents.

The only question I have is is the FSC passed on before Landstar takes their percentages?

Landstar dictates the FSC based off of the National Average. Not what the customer pays. The FSC is deducted before Landstar and the agent get their cut of the line haul.

    Load pays $3000
    FSC might be $300
    Accessorial fees $250 (Tarp)
    Line haul is $2450
Agent and Landstar get their percentage (Cut) from only the line haul
    Which would be approx $661
So approx 1757 would go to the truck.
You can get your 30% advance of the load for fuel and expense.

These #'s are a close guestamate of what you might see. Now if you drive slow and have a great MPG truck you'll have part of your 30% for fuel and expenses left over when you're done. Most likely about what you need to pay for taxes give or take.

I am trying to get any info possible on Landstar, I applied about a month ago to Star Qual, and it seems I getting a little bit of a run around. An ex BCO told me that there was a way to side step going thru Star Qual, by going thru an agent to get hired on as a BCO. Could anybody elaborate on this method. I have 32 years over the road experience, spotless MVR, all endorsements, passport card. Only one small problem though I worked for Jevic Trans. ( AWWWW), from 2001 until there demise in 2008, but I still have the necessary 1 year otr experience that they are requiring. If anybody could give me any helpful ideas it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you and be safe.

I just got hired on this week. It took me 13 business from the time I faxed in my application to when I set up my oreintation, and that includes buying a tractor. Have you asked if they are needing any further info? If they can't verify your employment with Jevic maybe offer to send them your w2's to show that you worked there.

If starqual can't get your info from Jevic thats the problem. Some folks take longer than others, it depends on how fast your previous carriers respond. Don't give up because if your not qualified starqual would have told you. As for going thru a agent I don't know how/if that works.

Only my last employer, which was last year for 11 months, and another I leased to in 2003-2004, are still in business. All before and after have shut their doors. Some show up on my DAC, others dont. I also worked for myself mid 2007 to Jan 2009 in a non-trucking field, and late last year through now in non-truck releated fields.

I can meet their driving requirements and proof according their site, but proof for 10 years is going to be hard to come by, unless they will go by my DAC, which shows eligible for rehire at all that reported.

I don't know wether to even send in an app. I may just call and talk first. I've never been turned down at any place that was hiring, and don't want to break that record now.

    Hello
We have been with Landstar for 2 years...the app process took us a month (as a team). They check out everything, and it depends on the person working on your file. Someone gave you advice to keep up on the calls...so true. Call at the beginning of the week and at the end of the week...the squeeky wheel gets the grease. They questioned the validity of the medical exam site who was an authorized site for cdl exams...etc. etc. Ask them what they want for evidence or what research you could do to get it to them in the form that proves your work experience. Good Luck!
