I was driving early morning hours trying to get home and Don't remember driving in an area in Los Angeles Ca., between 210 fwy and the 134 fwy on interstate 5 going south (thats about 20 miles or so). When I realize where I was at (woke up) , I had goose bumps all over my entire body. I had to pull over to figure out what just happen and did.I will NEVER EVER forget that feeling. It still haunts me. I been driving only about 2 or 3 years for an owner op back in early 1980's.

Grubby and joseph1135 Thank this.

Was it a box, flat or tank, and was it empty or partial load? Glad you are OK.
(And no the question of flat was not a mistake. I saw that happen to an empty hay hauler in a "micro burst" down on SR 86 between Salton City and Brawley one night.) -
2 times in a 4 wheel:
Coming down I 40 east through Knoxville mid-December 2003. Typical weather; snow, sunshine, meltoff, then night. Everything freezes over and the snow starts to blow. It's 11:30PM, my wife who is 4 1/2 months pregnant with our 2nd child beside me in a pickup truck-no 4WD-no chains. People sliding off 40 by the handfull.
So we escaped I 40 to Lovell Rd. Outta the pan into the fire. Lovell Rd is on a grade, and we're going up it. Got my right rear tire up against the curb and did a bump and run. Even acomplished going around a big Chevy 4X4 that managed to go up over the curb. Had to drive that way fer bout 5 miles. I think I strained my pucker muscle that night.
Early summer 4:30 AM, going 60+ eastbound on 640 above Knoxville. Light sprinkles and the road is just a tad wet. Me in a pick up and another guy in a Grand Cherokee go past a 18 wheel wreck on the left shoulder and both of us run through the diesel fuel that spilled outta the 18 wheelers right tank. He and I performed Olympic Ice Skating stunts for about 3/4 mile before we got the diesel fuel off our tires. We didn't hit each other, but we got within spittin distance several times. -
Scariest driving ever happend last week or so. (but it was in my personal car not a rig)
I was comming back from my Mother's on a Sunday night, weather was perfect had the top down and the warmth of the day was still clinging onto the evening. I was heading West into PA so the Sunday night traffic was headed the other way so the roads were near empty. I had heard there was rain comming but so far it was clear and warm.
Just outside of Allentown I got a few sprinkles so I pulled over and put the top up. Oh well, I knew it couldn't last. but I opted to take the back roads down to Reading.
About 20 minutes later I'm watching a spectacular light show. Lighting is all around me. But I'm begining to feel uneasy. I mean, I've only got a canvas top over my head, what if the car gets hit? Or even in-directly? Lighting hits a tree, tree falls, splatered roadster driver!
So I figure I'd better pick up the pace. I'm about 10 minutes from home in the Oley Valley (nice place if you've ever passed though) and I know this one stretch of road is good for high speed easy. Nothing but farms and quarrys. Dead flat and level for about 2-3 miles. There's still no rain but I can hear the wind and the lighting is starting to make me nervous. I cross 662 and floor it towards Limekilm. 60-70-80-90 and *BAM* I drive into a WALL of water like I've never experienced outside of a carwash!
I can't see the edge of the hood let alone the road. I slow down, only guessing as to where the road is. (luckly for me it's dead-straight so it's not hard to guess) At 20 I catch a glimpse of the double yellow, and I'm stradling it. Wipers are on full and not doing a #### thing. At 15 mph I can still barely see the end of the hood. I catch an occasional view of the double yellow and give up on trying to keep on the right. It's all I can do to keep it between the head lights. 4-ways are on. I try high-beams, low beams, even parking lights. Nothing helps, I'm blind.
I crawl though Limekilm hoping the local stream isn't flash flooding then make a break for higher ground. By now the rain has tapered off to a mere monsoon. And the rest of my run home is uneventfull (save for the 14" deep lake where my sidewalk is, and the white water rapids that were the stairs to the 2nd level apartment.) I'm begining to feel like an extra in the Titanic Movie.
I've never been hit by rain that bad. Maybe it seemed worse in the roadster than it would have in a 9400, but I'll pass on driving though that again. -
A couple days ago, was in ontario making a delivery at Access warehouse....the place had an odd dock where apparently the parking lot has sunk after building the building, and they have added asphalt in front of the dock...theres about a foot step up. First of all, it ripped one of my mudflaps off. What am i supposed to do about that?
But heres the scary part. My trailer was too low for the dock (LOL). I tried dropping it and lowering the landing gear a bit. Welll, i had set the parking brakes on that hump....and the one axle that has parking brakes was not touching the ground. I get out and the tractor starts rollin past me at light speed. I jump back in and set the brakes..but they're already set!! It stopped pretty quick though. But...!!! -
Not to be a smart ### or anything but how does a trailer roll with the landing gear on the ground? -
