Yep, I'm familiar with that DOT Physical location. I went there for a physical about 5 years ago. It went fine. However, they used to have a nurse practitioner doing the DOT physicals - but not anymore - it's only chiropractors now. And the problem with that is that my company (West Side Transport) insists on the medical card being from a MD, DO, NP or PA - it can't be a chiropractor - they won't accept it.

I have this same issue and this is what I do. First of all relax, worst that will happen is you will get a 3 month card and have time to figure things out. That said, first of all go off caffeine completely for at least 3 days prior to the exam. This makes a huge difference. Second, if they take your blood pressure and it is a little high you have the right to ask them to allow you to lay down for a few minutes and try again. This, for me at least, always works. Laying down in a quiet room and keeping your eyes closed and breathing even your pressure should easily drop 10-20 points. Lastly, for future do your best to lose some weight. I lost 20 pounds between physical's and had no problem last time. Also, I have had the best luck with Nurse practitioner's, particularly female Nurse practitioner's. Not being sexual here at all but for me Women Nurse Practitioner's tend to have the best bedside manner's and that in itself help's to lower anxiety. Best wishes and do this and I am confident all will work out fine.

Thats ridiculous but understand because my last company had their own list as well. Fortunately they were understanding of the white coat syndrome. They 2nd reading was fine . I wish I could help you , maybe someone in the ATL area can point you in the right direction. I've tried all the suggestions for lowering it and none seem to work except the bp med. Sugar also jacks it up so best to stay away from it for several days before , as does alcohol.

That's what worked for me.
Just had my physical about a month ago. Always had blood pressure problems, am on a med for it.
When the nurse practioner first took my B/P, it was 145/83. I was sitting on the examination table. She had me sit in a chair for about 20 minutes, took it again. It dropped to 129/80. Another 1 year card. I was told, with a history of high B/P, a one year is the best I can hope for.
Another thing that works for me, if you are on a medication, double it up before you go.Truckermania and smokey12 Thank this. -
Take BP meds 3-4 hours before your test, to give them time to kick in. Avoid sodium and caffeine. And take the elevator instead of the stairs.

They get my blood pumpin unfortunately

I don't know of any doctors to use, but here are some breathing exercises that will lower your BP if you practice them. They won't do anything if you don't practice them. The fastest thing you can do is fast and drink water. Weight loss, not just 50-75 pounds, but 5-10 pounds, lowers your blood pressure. Make these breathing exercises a habit so that on test day you aren't just trying to remember how to do them and wondering if they work. Measure your BP before and after the exercises so you can see they work. Don't use a wrist cuff type of BP monitor unless you can be precise like a Swiss watchmaker when using one. Wrist devices are VERY sensitive to not be exactly at heart level, while most people assume if they have an arm then they are probably using the device correctly. Instead use an upper arm BP monitor. Rest silently 5 minutes before any BP measurement. On test day INSIST you have 5 minutes or more of silent rest before they measure your BP. Nurses like to talk to you and rush the BP measurement. Tell them you have moderate BP and you have White Coat Syndrome since this exam could end your career when your BP at home is at least 10-20 points lower than at the doctor's office. Practice the breathing exercises daily, at least. They don't work if you don't do them.

nah that’s super BS only giving you a 1-yr after showing them a 129/80. That’s perfectly healthy for crying out loud.

Once you get a 1 year card, it's hard to get a 2 year. And being on meds doesn't help.
