I find autos to be near worthless on ice. Last company job I had was USF Holland. We had a mix of manuals and autos. One night, every single auto had to be towed off the ready line because of traction issues, while none of the manuals did. When I got to Mauston, it took me 45 mins to swap trailers with my meet man because there was a quarter inch of ice at the meet point. He had a manual and just pulled right out. When I finally did get out from under it, he backed under, hooked up, and took off. Finally I had to take a running shot across the parking lot to get under the #### thing. Good thing I didnt miss.

    I hate autos...

Allison has a true automatic with a torque converter and functions like the automatic cars most people know. They also made an automated manual with a torque converter, so you have to specify. There are few programming options for the Allisons. with most having no programming options. The true automatics do work good but get poor fuel economy so you usually only find them in heavy haul or dump truck where fuel economy is the least issue.

The rest are automated manuals and often do have different programs available to chose from. This leads some drivers to complain more than others about the same automated manual.

I hate them all. I don't need them, and overall they waste more time and money. Of that I can live with the Allison true automatic.

I totally agree on autos in winter but that hardly ever applies to me.

I have no issues with creeping around. Let off the brakes and it starts rolling on its own. Can use the brakes to control speed. Only reason I went DT instead of Allison was to get adaptive cruise and reduce lead time by 6 months.

    we are opposites!

I specifically didn’t want adaptive cruise and I in theory waited for my November Allison build slot - that the stupid factory pulled up to September/October

I really do like my Allison

I’m just stuck in my ways. If it ain’t broke don’t fix it. I’m probably a manual guy until I can no longer get one

If u get an Allison transmission it is a full auto as it has a torque converter. Dont really see them in the big trucks though.

You like adaptive cruise control?? Wow I hate that about the most of anything about these new trucks. I have a theory that if everyone used it the entire interstate would eventually be at a complete stop. I suppose that most people would have their head buried so deep in their cell phones they wouldn’t even notice though.
