I just spoke to Roadmasters in Millington, TN. They said that I get what I pay. I can go to one of the other cheaper truck driving schools but I may not be hired by carriers.
He's currently trying to charge me over $15,000. I told him that Vocational Rehab was going to pay for my CDL School.
Am I missing something? I know some schools are better than others. But, $15,000 seems extremely expensive.
If I can get my CDL School paid for then that seems like the logical choice.
If they hadn't gotten greedy then I wouldn't have applied for Vocational Rehab.

Some schools jack up the prices when the taxpayers are footing the bill.

Werner owns Roadmasters cdl school. Don't be pressured into working for Werner if that's not the company you want. The pay sucks, just like Schneider.
If they're the only two companies that will hire, then just have to deal with it for at least a year to qualify for something better.

Just curious what is vocational rehab and are you saying you don’t have to pay the $15,000 or is that a loan you have to pay back. If you have to pay it back me I never went to truck driving and I wouldn’t want to pay a $15,000 loan back.Maybe something like I did would save you money. I got a job at a grocery distribution center as a yard jockey when I was 19 and did that until the day I turned 21 they gave me a certificate that would cover my road test and the pre trip at the dmv all I had to do is the written test to get my CDL then they put me to driving

What do you get for $15 grand?

I want 5 star accommodations, 5 star restaurant, breakfast in bed served by a beautiful Asian woman with straight black hair to her waist flown in from the far East the same day (ain’t taking seconds from trashy truck drivers) I arrive.

“But Six, you’re not going to get a CDL school to agree to all of that!”

I wouldn’t agree to attend a CDL school that said something about $15k to work at Weiner. Did you know, you can get a warehouse job at Coke, work the warehouse through your probation, and they will put you through CDL school? Usually, the probation is like 3 months. I’d much rather do that than be a $15000 Weiner.

The CDL program at the technical school in my hometown is $2500. Most of the people don't even have to pay a dime because the Hope grant takes care of it. The Roadmasters in Savannah, GA was charging 7k the last time I inquired about it earlier this year. $15k for a CDL course is definitely robbery imo.

ANY CDL school just teaches you to pass the state exam. It doesn't matter if it's a state vo-tech or technical school, a for-profit 3 week school, or the Beverly Hills, CA CDL school.

Once he found out you had $15k attached to your name, his course suddenly costs $15k for you. Do yourself a favor and find the trucking company that will hire you the day after CDL school and see what school they hire from. The goal is a job and career, not a course. When people get married their goal is a long-term relationship and family, not a wedding ceremony. CDL school is just the ceremony at the start, not the goal.

Vocational Rehab probably has a maximum they can apply to ANY trade school. Truck driving is just one of those trade schools. Lots of newbies think trucking will be a low-stress and interesting job where you sit down all day. It's actually high-stress and for some people it's like a prison sentence if they like the people they are around before trucking. Trucking is a good job for people that prefer to not be around people all of the time. If you must be around people to be happy or feel normal trucking is not a good fit for you. If you feel like people are mostly a major problem and enjoy being alone, not just tolerate it, trucking might be good for you. IMO, too many people are going into trucking with absolutely no business doing so. The govt seems to be handing out trade school money to everyone with a DUI, bad driving record, prison escapee, and illegal immigrant. 80+% of newbies quit the industry LONG before they get a year's experience. For most newbies, CDL school and trucking are just a colossal waste of time before they do something else.

When I went to my 3 week CDL school, it costs $3500 and the local vo-tech was charging $600 for the CDL program. Before I settled on the 3 week CDL school I lived in FL and they charged $800 for the CDL course that took a few months. Since I was almost homeless I went to the 3 week CDL school and they found a loan company to give me a loan, which I paid back.

Find the job first, then decide about how to get qualified. School is NOT the first decision in the chain. If it is, you just volunteered to be in the 80% of newbies that leave trucking quickly, like weeks or months after they start. That outcome is no good for the industry or the student.
