Does your company let you decide when you drive, like day or night, or do they expect you to drive whenever you legally can?

Drive when you eant ad long as the load gets delivered on time.
Cattleman84, bryan21384, austinmike and 2 others Thank this. -
Depends on when on the load schedules. Refrigerated trucking has a lot of odd hours, wee morning deliveries (which is why I did it for 18 years), because I can hack it.
You can drive any time you want to as long as you make your appointment times.bryan21384, austinmike and hope not dumb twucker Thank this. -
I decide when I need to drive to deliver on time, damage free. I tend to park between noon and 14:00 because I like starting my day early. But we all do what we need to do to deliver ontime. On new stops I always ask idf they haev parking nd will they accept the load early. I like to sleep at the recievers where ever possible.Trucker61016, TurkeyCreekJackJohnson and austinmike Thank this.

When you are on a load, you are responsible for delivery being on time, any way you can do it. My trucking day usually started about 02:00-03:00, and I'd usually shut-down in the early afternoon, while there were still plenty of spaces. Driving at 3:30 in the morning has advantages; there are few cars on the road, and most of the drunks are home.

I've seen co's restrict drivers routes/time of day to be on the road/no parking areas etc.

My only reply is that If the company chooses the routing and the hours I can drive then Iam no longer the responsible for delivering on time. In th event they do this they can guareentee I will roll at legal speeds and not cut any corners.Cattleman84 and MACK E-6 Thank this.

The company nor dispatch doesn't tell you when to drive. The load information combined with your available hours tells you when to drive. You may prefer to drive early in the morning, but the load may not suggest that you drive early in the morning. If you drive reefer, be prepared to have an unstable sleep schedule from time to time.
Cattleman84 Thanks this. -
I definitely won’t work for an outfit like that.Cattleman84 Thanks this.

Especially dealing with customers like various Kroger, C&S, Aldi's, And Associated Warehouse Groceries (AWG)......they will take all night pretty regularly.....
