I’m going to CDL school mid December for Class A and, as a female driver, I want to sign up with an OTR company (dry van) that pays well as a new driver, goes to both coasts (but mostly west coast), allows a small dog, and basically live on the truck (no rent). Please tell me which companies you suggest and any suggestions as well. I’m starting over in life because the job market is shrinking and I got to make a decent living

If you put your zip code or nearest major city that would be more helpful

You'll get MUCH BETTER suggestions on this topic...if we know roughly where your preferred residence is -- a zip code would work just fine -- or nearest big city & state.

Also: to further offer better suggestions -
    • What is your driving record like? Any tickets or accidents in the last 5 - 7 years?
    • What is your criminal history like? Is it clean for the last several years? Or....have you spent some time in front of a judge? And for what?
    • Can you pass a DOT physical exam? Can you pass a random drug screen?
Unpleasant questions, yes....but easier to deal with now....than later, with carriers.

I wish you the best of luck in the current trucking industry as a new potential driver. Everyone who enters trucking has different goals towards their success and the most important key would be the experience factor. Be careful of trucking companies that promise you the world because were basically going through a trucking Revolution. I'd suggest watching various youtube vlogs of truckers but only take in 50% of what they're saying as genuine. Tons of fabrication occurrs in trucking so its difficult to know who's right. But some are spot on regarding the industry. Never be afraid to ask for detention pay because time is money and unless you speak up no one will care about your well being financially. As a newby, some companies will try to convince you to use personal coyenance as intervals between customers but remember its your license once obtained. DOT will be more concerned with a newby because of the chaotic occurrences such as ELP laws, Illegal CDL holders etc. Its a good time for new drivers like yourself who are properly trained and vetted when applying to a job because the Entire Industry is significant and continuous transformation driven by a combination of technological advancements, evolving regulations, and persistent economic and labor challenges.

You'll make more money with refrigerated trucking than with dry van, but if you're sure you want dry van, we'll help you get that.
Which state do you live in; Idaho, Minnesota, New Hampshire?
