And the contractors get paid peanuts.

But there are a lot of empty moves involved. When I was dedicated, we sometimes pulled an empty from Ocala to Indy to pick up our load. They had it set up where we did our backhaul first.

It could depend on the shipping and receiving locations too. Hot lanes command higher prices.

In our shipping system it is all based on zones. The further the more expensive.

With a **** pile of expenses to go with it. Say that pup ends up having 30 different pickup drivers and 30 different delivery drivers, with at least 2 hub transitions. I'm surprised that shipping costs for parcels are as low as they are considering what I was paying 20 years ago.

There was a video made a couple years ago at the Memphis hub showing one trailer completely full of packages. The interviewer asked the manager how much revenue was in that one trailer, he nonchalantly said over a million dollars.

Yep LTL has a boatload of overhead but it's still way more profitable than TL.

This, and they were buying a lot of new 53' trailers when I pulled their stuff. But the pups were very old, and lots of old, broken dollies. We had a lot of retreads fly apart. Odds are good something is wrong with a set of doubles, but the larger terminals have shops.

They’re still buying a boatload of new 53’s and they’re getting in new dollies. That rumor of doing away with pups isn’t going to happen anytime soon. And you’re right Jerry, some of these pups are falling apart rather quickly.

It's fun moving those dollies when the pavement is covered in ice, yes?
