I'm well aware that any business wants to save money and trucking companies are no different. So why do they want prospective new hires to get another physical when they have a valid card in hand?
I could walk into an interview with a DOT card that I just got from Med-Express the day before, and a prospective employer will send me right back to that very same Med-Express to get another one.
I realize that in the grand scheme of things, the $150 they pay for the physical may not mean much, to me it's just an unnecessary expense they could use the money for something else, like paying the drivers more.
DOT Physicals for new hires when you already have one.

Reduces the chance for a fake card.

For the same reason, almost all carriers ignore § 382.301 (b) and do their own urine testing. This way, they control the process, which reduces any future issues with obtaining paperwork and/or data from a previous carrier.062, brian991219, Lonesome and 2 others Thank this.

I never thought about that.

Because some DOT doctors and nurses will certify anyone that can pay for a card and some docs/nurses won't pass anyone. That trucking company, or their insurance provider, requires certain providers or has experience that their provider is more accurate/trustworthy.hope not dumb twucker, 201, brian991219 and 1 other person Thank this.

Oh really, come on, it pads the pockets of all concerned,,,except you. I say that is one of THE most crooked industries, and you couldn't convince me for a second, the trucking company doesn't get some kind of kickback for "every applicant they send in". I think there may some merit to reducing fraud, and I understand a company would want a DOT exam in their name, it really is more about money, and let's not forget the health concerns FOUND at a DOT exam, pads pockets even further. Nope, it's all a crock, and why in part I got out, I'm not going to pad these crybaby doctors pockets, as long as I'm conscious, anyway.
hope not dumb twucker Thanks this. -
The better companies don't do this nonsense. Mostly it is the Mega's that make you do this. Of all the companies I have worked for only one, Maverick, forced me to use their Doctor.strider1500 Thanks this.

Or the opposite, a lot more drivers can become available,
The only reason a company sends you to a dr is to protect the company's interest.
my family DR always did mine and the DMV made sure it was ''LEGAL'', -
Most are cool with one that’s still valid. Some may want a new one if it’s more than a year old or getting a little too close to expiring. Some outfits you probably don’t want to drive for will send you in for a another one regardless of how new your current one is.
Getting medically disqualified to drive should be a little wakey-wakey that’s it’s time to take your health a little more seriously. And the good news is that you don’t need any doctor to do that. I feel like a dork getting out my truck in my jogging duds but staying away from the donuts and sody pops is honesty tougher IMO.hope not dumb twucker and strider1500 Thank this. -
How did the dmv make sure it was legal? No doctor office is allowed to release any of your medical history to anyone are you saying your doctor will. If so you have a good lawsuit against them.Since I don’t think you understand that most people know no one can check with a doctors office they won’t even admit you have ever even been there.Blank Physical forms can be bought at truck stops and falsely filled out so some companies will send you there doctor and pay for it so they have the records you actually went there201 and hope not dumb twucker Thank this.
