I'll start by saying as I've read, landstar doesn't hire anyone that has failed a drug test so I was looking for a similar o/o company that might. I have the money to buy a truck and get started but I don't feel comfortable running my own authority completely, which made a company like landstar sound appealing to me. I've pulled hazmat, doubles triples, intermodal, reefers, and tankers. I enjoy ltl and I'm in pretty good shape if something physical needs to be done.
For context I smoked some weed on my vacation about 6 months back and failed a random when I came back to work. I'm never gonna smoke again while I drive trucks it was a terrible mistake. I'm on step 6 of the SAP process, so my CDL is valid and I'm thankful to be working at a local dump truck company now, but I have ambition for more. Most companies won't hire me so my options are very limited. I've heard there may be more opportunities for me as an owner operator.
Landstar as a sap driver.

At 6 months SAP, it will be easier to get your own authority than it will to get leased on to a decent company. You'll need to find a second chance company, and they will abuse because they can.

Thankfully this company isn't abusing me really but you're right. My own authority is seeming like the only option the more I look at it. I might just have to ride things out here for the next five years
