Driving from Raleigh NC to Dallas. Map software shows to main routes, 1 the southern route or 2 the northern Screenshot_20251204_213649_Maps.jpg route
    1. Raleigh to Atlanta to Shreveport etc
    2. Raleigh to Nashville to Memphis etc
    Any thoughts?

You'll lose any extra time on the southern route going through Atlanta unless you time it to go through in the middle of the night. Charlotte can be bad at rush hour too and 85 between Charlotte and the GA line is almost one continuous construction zone.

Personally I'd take 40 across TN and Arkansas and down. Nashville can be a pain too but the east/west through there on 40 is better than the north/south routes. Again, I'd try to plan around rush hours. Memphis rarely slows me down.

    How heavy are you?

Can always take 840 around Nash if going east/west on 40 as well.

Six one half a dozen the other. I’d probably take the southern route less chance of sleet and freeze rain. Honestly I prefer 95 to 20. Miss Greensboro, Charlotte and Greenville/spartanburg.

Unless the weather is bad on I-40 I would 100% take the northern route and bypass Nashville with I-840 if only to avoid going through Atlanta.

Plus that whole i20 from Alabama to Texas can be a bear too with people going to the coast and driving like fools....

Personally, I'd avoid Atlanta, and anyplace in MS or LA that you would need to shut-down at....
