Yeah my driving and backing has improved a ton, I have shocked myselfe, I actually can say I dont feel nearvous behind the wheel, I'm sure that will change once I start with a company. Sounds like you got some good experience right off the bat Jakebrake. Im done with school this week and I hope this line of work works for me. I still wish the school would give me more time behind the wheel, on the same token, im confident that I will catch on pretty quick once im being trained.

I drove more than a few school buses in my transport days..... We used to export them to South America, it paid the same as driving a rig so I figured why not!

I talked to the local May recruiter who comes to the school I am attending and she told me they really don't do pre-hires anymore, she told me to reapply with a week of school left I plan on doing that this week tomorrow possibly. I told her my experience with Road Master telling me I was denied and she said they always do that and said she was going to call them to remind road master they are not doing pre-hires. We had a good talk.
The other 2 guys in my class are VERY impressed with Watkins and Shepard and have both decided to apply with them instead of May. I am already signed up for W/S orientation on June 3rd. I think I will use May as my backup.
Good Luck to you.stevenater Thanks this. -
Man, I don't like hearing that... DANG IT!!! But I guess it is what it is. TD.
-
TD no worries, they have to make it through the stuff first. I know one will not pass the HPE test NO way in heck. I don't even know how he passed the DOT physical he has some kind of neck injury he is pretty scary to ride with. The other wants to team and is a little worried about going solo right away.

COOL!!! Leave one position open!! MINE!!!

Skunk: Truer words have not been said "Each truck has its own personality".
I did 2 years with Swift and had 13 different trucks (no wrecks, I don't break my tools!). Some were upgrades, fleet changes etc. My favorite was a 2003 Freightshaker with 480hp and 13spd (body off rebuild everything). Dang thing ran like a top, but looked rough. My least favorite was 2008 International daycab with super singles ( squirelly in Seattle rain).
Back to the point. Pay attention when getting into a new rig. There are differences even if the same make and model as the last rig. Small changes in shift rpm, braking time, etc. -

I don't like hearing this either. I received an app from Sandy and am just waiting to get started with school before I send it in. I will also be applying with May and Schneider. -
I'll fill the other one!!!!!

You start out nervous as heck and build confidence over time. Some build too much confidence and pick up bad habits. This usually occurs with 1-2 year drivers as they think they know it all, but still have alot to learn like job stability, dealing with stress, dealing with customers to your advantage, safe habits over lead foot, etc. At about 5 years you will be seasoned, know most of the tricks and look back at your earlier years and laugh. Your first couple years are memorable as you see the country for the first time. The more you drive, the shorter the roads become.stevenater Thanks this.
