Jason, I'm easily confused, are you on the Home Run?
-
Love that avatar Jason!

Heh, yeah I just noticed it as well, I like it too.

I have already been researching CB's. I have it narrowed down to a Cobra 29 w/Bluetooth & Nightwatch, Cobra 25 w/Nightwatch, or a Galaxy DX929. I know this isn't the correct forum for that info, but just thought I would share.
I agree that this forum is great after you get past all the hit and run disgruntled posters. There are some fine folks on here that genuinely try to give honest and accurate information. They have been a great help to me as well.difference-maker Thanks this. -
I got a cobra 29 chrome and it's not too shabby. I called sni today and they said the soonest they would rehire me is 2 years away so I guess I'm staying where I'm at

Sorry to hear that about SNI. I am looking forward to going. From all the research I have done, I believe it will be a good fit for me. I am still keeping my feet on the ground, however, and not getting my expectations too high in general, but at the same time, I believe it could be terribly worse with some of the other companies. It feels right in my gut and that is all I can trust at this moment. Plus I have gotten some great feedback from some of the Pumpkin Drivers on this sight.johnday Thanks this. -
That's not good. Have you been looking in your area very hard? As big as Texas is, there has to be something for you. How about the oilfields?

Harrison, and other newer drivers. A word on those radios, just my opinion, I think they're all decent radios. Just get what you like. The antenna and grounding is the most important thing.
On the Century's you'll be in, the antennas are abysmal at best, it's the coax and grounding actually that are garbage. I've had good luck with a vice grip like mount and a good Wilson antenna. Key to that is when you mount, clamp just hard enough so you can still wiggle it a bit, to get through the paint on the mirror arm, then clamp it down good and tight, then run your coax at the front of the door just above the hinge. Mine is mounted on the passenger side so I won't run the risk of crushing my coax.
Now, on the dash mount, take a little padding and put under the radio before you cinch it down, that will eliminate a lot of the vibration from the truck.
Also on the dash, I run a short jumper from the radio case, you can use the supplied mike mount for connecting one end, then take the other and ground it on the negative terminal at the supplied connections.
I have a Galaxy 959 at present with an Astatic mike, works well for me, and others tell me it sounds good. You can get out 3-5 miles with my setup. I don't think that's too bad.
Oh yeah, you're going to want to hear someone you're talking too as well. I've got a talk back remote speaker that I just sit in front of the wheel against the windshield.
Hope it helped, I'm hitting the rack in a few.

I will probably need more info on the jumper you are referring to. Also, will I need to probably replace the stock antennas and coax on the Freightliner?
That distance is all I am worried about. I am too old to worry about drowning out other radio users and all the "extras" people are putting on their radios now days. I just want clear reception and transmission for traffic info and customers.
You can answer that in a PM. I don't want to hijack the thread on CB stuff.
