The trailer was unloaded. Or technically, lightly loaded. We're talking GVW in the ball0ark of 8,000-10,000. Thanks for the links.

It’s the GVW-R that determines what rules you have to play by, not the actual weight of the truck and trailer together. A 2500 or larger pickup with a 20 foot trailer of any sort behind it will almost certainly put you over 10,000 lbs on the combined weight ratings. Good chance you’re over 10,000 on the actual empty weight too, but maybe not. A 2500/3500 single rear wheel pickup is around 7500 lbs I’d say. Dually probably closer to 8000.
you should find a cat scale and weigh the truck and trailer full of fuel with you in it. That is important information to know when running smaller lighter weight equipment that’s easy to overload. And watch your hitch weight too especially if it’s a bumper pull trailer.ColoradoLinehaul, gentleroger, tscottme and 1 other person Thank this. -
Next time just run it at night.
Carpenter Scotty Thanks this. -
I can only imagine what the entrance ramps would look like if every pickup with bumper pull under 10,000 went into the scale house.

Nope, or every mail man, every fedex, ups and amazon delivery driver would be filling out a log book.

they typically fall under the local/short haul exemption if driving a big truck. Logbook I believe is GVWR 10,001+ and running outside out the short haul radius.ColoradoLinehaul and MACK E-6 Thank this.

. The “short haul exemption” is not an HOS exemption, it offers an alternative method to comply with the HOS rules.
If they were subject to HOS, they’d sport DOT numbers, etc. And they don’t.ColoradoLinehaul Thanks this. -
rule of thumb for company driver, they want us to keep a blank log book, in case Computer goes out. A couple of times it did. So, the next day, no elogs , they want me too use paper log. i said ok, but i must have a copy of the last 7 days of logs in order to run. dispatcher hated that, but had to provide them for me.kemosabi49, ColoradoLinehaul and gentleroger Thank this.

i believe scale houses say, over 10,000 pds gross you must weigh.
