My wife and i want to go team car hauling out of tampa fl. I have been hauling locally for a year and a half. Anyone know of any Companies with nice trucks and good car haul runs for a team? I want to see if it would be worth our time because we make a little over 80k a year together now in our local jobs. My wife doesn't have any cdl experience so i will be training her.
Any info from actual car haulers with otr experience would be appreciated! Thanks! -
swift no longer has auto transport...blue thunder bought that from them...

I just started driving at the beginning of '06. I came in not really knowing anything about the trucking industry. I went to the Swift school in Tennessee at a cost of $3000 because they were the biggest, etc. I started having problems from them within several months. I had to fight to get loads and then I'd run load. Next I'd have to fight to get paid. The problem really wasn't with my DM it was with the morons on nights and weekends. They are not held accountable for anything they do or don't do. Payroll has a very lackadaisical (sp?) attitude toward getting problems resolved. I finally switched over after 6 months to their flatbed division because this would move me from the Decatur, Ga terminal to the Greer, SC terminal. I was hoping that things would go better there. After making that move things went well for about two months and then all of the same problems started to come up again. I went searching for another company with what I had learned and went over to Melton truck lines running flatbed. I have been with them just over three months and am extremely happy. To this day Swift still owes me money from two truck washes and one run. To the guy who stated that Swift is a GOOD company for GOOD drivers, I doubt that your work history, driving record, or just good ol' IQ are any higher than mine and I absolutely HATE Swift. They do have some good people working for them but those people are in the minority and are constantly undermined by upper management.

THANKS FOR THE HEALTH!!!! -
I'm thinking of swift.. they have a terminal right down the road from me.
Everyone's been telling me don't but... i'd like to see an equal amount of reasons as to why and why not.
I was due to leave for MTC tomorrow but no pre-hires yet so aiming for the 19th.. Recruiter's gonna call me Monday. Swift is one of the companies on the MTC thing..

I am going with them because they sponsered a training class in my home town which is fairly small and I only have to do a 6 month stint with them plus they are giving a $500 signing bonus after I get my CDL and sign on with them. Swift will probably hire most people that apply which in turns means your going to have alot of less skilled drivers on the road which puts them in the limelight alot. I feel the more you put into it and do your job and only complain when its really absolutely needed then for the most part you should be okay. This is the same with any big company as I have been in upper management and been in some big companies in my non trucking career and you see this all the time. I read this forum to inform me on what I need to be on the watch for with any company. There is going to be some good and some bad but it's really how you deal with it that will determine if your outcome is going to be good or bad. The really so called good companies have stricter hiring rules anyway and you need to be squeaky clean to begin with or they require some experience or wont provide training if you need your cdl. Alot of people say get you cdl on your own which would be nice if you have the time and the money. I really don't and I have to make a choice as to what's best for me right now. I have enough common sense to determine if they are really screwing me over then I need to make a change but before I do I will know if I am doing the right thing myself by doing what I supposed to be doing and not trying to get over on them. I never expect something for nothing and will always give 110% regardless. Good things come to people that do good but that never means you have to be a sap in return. Just be a man.
Good Luck,
Marty -
