I’ll keep this as brief as possible.

    Seeking some guidance/advice

First and foremost, yes I am *trying* to get a job at Sysco. I am aware of the long hours/hard work/ BS with the warehouses and management et cetera

So please no comments anywhere along the lines of

“yo sysco sucks bro go work for xyz company”

    or

“lol u couldn’t pay me to work for sysco brah”

I won’t get into my situation too much but know that Sysco is my best option to make any real money in my area. I refuse to go OTR. And the area I live in sucks, every other decent company is just too far away or I can’t work for them because I don’t have enough experience.

I’m 26. Been driving for just over 3 years. 1.5 OTR 1.5 ish local. Downtown deliveries, manual labor, pallet jack hand truck et cetera.

I have years of background in wal-mart grocery warehouse work as well as years in online sales customer service.

I also have a clean record and have never been fired from anywhere.

So I sound like exactly the type of young driver sysco should snatch up the moment I call them right? Well that’s what me and everyone I know thought as well…

Unfortunately I have been attempting to get a driving position at my local sysco for almost 3 months now. I have applied 9 times. The first 7 times I heard nothing. My application sat for 4 days each time like clockwork and would get rejected. I would receive a “sorry but u werent selected” email, these would even sometimes be sent on weekends Sunday morning et cetera which I found odd.

I was told by Sysco drivers I have met that I should just keep applying. So I did.

On the 8th time my application actually sat for over a full week and I managed to get a call from a recruiter. Now when they called me I was making a delivery and missed their call by literally 3 minutes, I called back immediately but got no answer.

I received an automated text as well as a voicemail about the attempt to contact me, it was a lady with a thick Indian accent, she asked me to provide dates and times she could attempt to reach me again.

I immediately replied saying she could call me anytime that same day or anytime the next day (Friday) past 8 am.

I heard nothing that day or Friday.

Oddly enough, I got another call on Saturday, I was busy so I missed it and was NOT expecting it to be from a sysco recruiter… I got another voicemail and text message, this time from a DIFFERENT indian lady…

I tried calling back to no avail.

Come Monday morning I am going down the road and I get another call. My phone rang for all of 8 seconds before it hung up and I was sent another text/voicemail… from a 3rd indian lady… I pulled over and called back immediately but got no answer.

The next day on Tuesday I am in my truck taking my lunch break and I get lucky enough to catch a recruiter calling me, I answered as quickly as I could and managed to actually speak to yet another indian lady (a 4th one now).

She ends up giving me the “phone screening” she provides a bunch of info about the job, pay schedule et cetera and asks me if I am okay with it, I ofc say yes.

She then asks me about previous years of experience, now me trying to be professional I add a small bit of background to my answers rather than just saying “1 year.” But while I do this she cuts me off and just goes “sir I just need the number of how many years”… pretty rude if you ask me. Once we are finished she tells me she will submit my questions for review and I should receive an email. And before I can even finish saying “thank you have a good day” she hangs up.

    How fun.

I then wait 4 full days and what do you know… I get the same rejection email. The 8th one in my collection.

I don’t understand. I meet all the requirements posted for the position, in fact I surpass them. And I even have a referral from another driver. Yet I was rejected even after making it to the phone screening. No explanation, nothing.

I have attempted to call the local SYSCO dc I am applying for multiple times and HR never picks up. And has not responded to ANY of my messages. I even printed out my resume and dot card to take down to the DC in person in hopes to get noticed and was shot down by the person at the front desk. they told they do all their recruiting through a 3rd party, and theres nothing they can really do about the recruitment process… this actually made a LOT of sense to me.

I now have my 9th application in and I do not have high hopes.

Tbh i’m not sure if i’m looking for real advice or if i’m just venting. But i’m just frustrated at this point. If anyone out there has any tips or suggestions, I would appreciate it.

And if you made it all the way through my ranting… you a real one for that

Thought you were gonna keep it brief?

You said DC. Do you not have a local yard where drivers park, or is all that at the DC?

Do you know any of their drivers personally, and have you gone into the DC in person?

Lots of these places go on recommendations from their drivers.

    Lol I tried to anyways.

it’s all at their DC. Locked gate. Back of giant warehouse/building. I have a referral from a driver at the same location. And I meet Sysco drivers on my routes all the time.

I have gone in person with my resume literally printed out (as stated in the post) but i’ve been basically shot down and told all recruiting is handled by a “3rd party” which from what I can gather is some call center in india or some such.

Lots of call centers are located in India.
I tried to change my satellite TV programming to delete some channels and add others. That went nowhere after trying to explain what I want to a call center employee in South America.
