Should I bring tools with me?

in 40 years of driving I have never installed a mudflap exce[t with mechanics wire, carry a small reel of it.

 

For a trainee I think all you need is a cell phone with an unlimited plan, $400 in cash in your pocket, a credit card if you’ve got some room on it, and your own air pressure gauge.

 

You can't do a respectable pre-trip or post trip (especially in the dark) -- without a REALLY GOOD flashlight.

Bonus points for flashlights, if they are:

• LEDs
• rechargeable
• have a magnetic mount
• at least 550 lumens (more is better still)
• can fit inside a pocket
• water/shock resistant

While I 100% agree all drivers should keep a flashlight suitable to do a pretrip I would not call a flashlight a tool per se. I would add a flashlight to the list of items a driver needs to have with them. Things like medications, music, etc etc. Another thing I would add is something people don't want to talk about in open forums like this one. Women need to keep women's products, of course. Another thing is a good pair of rubber boots to have on in places like drop yards. In the past, I have stepped in human/dog waste and the remains of animals. It's so much easier to clean that crap off rubber boots than your good shoes.

I know I sound like I am splitting hairs. In some ways, I guess I am. Back in my driving days, I kept a flashlight in my POV and to this day keep one close to my bed. This is why I would not call a flashlight a tool, but something necessary even when not driving.

 

If you can’t use them definitely not. Nothing worse than un ####ing something that wasn’t bad till someone else got done messing with it
