    They’re typically the easiest roads to run especially in the wintertime.

    I agree but the toll roads don’t really do you much good anyway on this crapper of a trip. There’s always a bridge toll to go east of the Hudson River (unless you’re already on a tolled road like 90), but other than that:

    71-76-80-81-84-691-91-95-395 looks to me like what *I* would probably do to stay strictly on controlled access interstate routes. I don’t mind dodging tolls when it makes sense but I loathe getting off onto the small stuff and will happily burn a few extra bucks in fuel to avoid it. Especially in that part of the country.

    The very thought of running that route gives me hives and raises my BP to cardiologist unapproved levels. And I’ve ran more than my fair share of miles in “EZ-Pass country”

    Check that: I’m running up 380 to 84 to bypass Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and 81. That can get surprisingly nasty through there at the wrong time
