They’re typically the easiest roads to run especially in the wintertime.

I agree but the toll roads don’t really do you much good anyway on this crapper of a trip. There’s always a bridge toll to go east of the Hudson River (unless you’re already on a tolled road like 90), but other than that:
71-76-80-81-84-691-91-95-395 looks to me like what *I* would probably do to stay strictly on controlled access interstate routes. I don’t mind dodging tolls when it makes sense but I loathe getting off onto the small stuff and will happily burn a few extra bucks in fuel to avoid it. Especially in that part of the country.MACK E-6 and Trucker61016 Thank this. -
The very thought of running that route gives me hives and raises my BP to cardiologist unapproved levels. And I’ve ran more than my fair share of miles in “EZ-Pass country”

Check that: I’m running up 380 to 84 to bypass Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and 81. That can get surprisingly nasty through there at the wrong time

That’s what I did
Other company I did OTR with gave you pick up and drop off time and date
You figure out how to get thereTrucker61016 Thanks this. -
What made you switch?
-
Hate OTR would rather be home daily
Which I am with this company however, the customer I haul for closes down the last week of December and I forgot this so I didn’t save my vacation time so I had to go OTR for this week Monday. I’ll be back to my home daily jobTrucker61016 Thanks this. -
They must have I-80 in NJ back open again then. There was a HUGE mess around the NJ-15 interchange in Rockaway last spring because of a sinkhole from an old coal mine. Had both directions shut down for months.
IMO running 84 over the Newburgh-Beacon to bypass NJ and downstate NY altogether is usually the better idea, but 84 in CT can be just as much of a traffic nightmare as 95 during PM rush hour and Hartford can be a little scary with the S-curves and idiots.
90 straight to MA is by far the easiest way to get into New England if you don’t need CT. -
that’s just a tough part of the country to have to shut down overnight in…I wouldn’t enjoy running OTR around there either. I’ve got a couple hidey holes but most of the truck stops are overcrowded nightmares by 5-6pm. IMO them parts usually ain’t even worth messing with.
