So Stevens drivers must pay lumper fees out of pocket then get reimbursed. That could take time, time a driver needs to pay a personal bill for instance. Is this normal for all companies?

never drove for a company that did that.
tscottme, blairandgretchen and Chinatown Thank this. -
Did your son read through their company policies before going to work there? Or did he just take the job and is now surprised at everything that comes up? Or did he sign up for a lease purchase without knowing it?
tscottme, blairandgretchen and Lonesome Thank this. -
I seriously doubt Steven’s is forcing drivers to pay out of pocket for lumpers… most lumper’s are electronic now with EFS T check, etc.… What’s the whole story about this and why don’t he come on here and say something about it as to what’s really happening?
Speedy356 and gentleroger Thank this. -
Jeez, I ask a simple question and get the 3rd degree? This is the whole story. But yes, Stevens does that.
-
No, it’s not that fbut any of us that are in this business knows that this is something not right with what is being reported… First of all lumpers are electronically done now with a express code from your company to the lumper company through an app…
i’m thinking he’s using his debit card through the app for the lumper service instead of requesting an express code from Stevens -
Yes very common at larger fleets. The company pays the fee at the time of delivery and deducts the amount from the drivers account. IF the driver submits the receipt right away, there may be no interruption of pay. However, drivers are idiots that don't always keep current with the paperwork. The company always comes first and will not eat the fee waiting for the driver to get around to things. If the driver looses the receipt that's on them.
All larger companies provide tools to allow the driver to scan and submit documents before leaving the receiver. Takes all of five minutes.
Worst case the fee shows up on the following settlement.Toomanybikes, gentleroger, bryan21384 and 3 others Thank this. -
Even with an express code from the company, they want the receipt before releasing funds to the driver.Toomanybikes, bryan21384 and drvrtech77 Thank this.

They get an advance, pay the lumper, turn in the receipt, get re-imbursed.
I seriously doubt they tell the driver to pay with a personal credit/debit card or cask.Trucker61016, Concorde, TripleSix and 5 others Thank this. -
Lumper fees are typically paid with a Comcheck, EFS Check, or with a Relay code. Usually drivers let their company know that there is a lumper fee, they send the code for the amount in their messages. The driver pays the lumper. Some places will allow a driver to use a debit card, perhaps even cash at some farmers markets. The most important thing here is that the driver keeps the receipt and sends it in. If the company sends the code and the driver does not send in the receipt with his paperwork after delivery, the company will keep withhold that money from his check. Now if he opted to use his debit card, which I don't recommend, then he will get his money back on the next paycheck. Hes gotta send in all the paperwork though. Stevens Transport is a very large company with big resources. I'm skeptical about the fact that they make drivers pay lumper out of their own money. He should sent a request for the money on his tablet or called the company himself. What I've laid out in my post is the norm for trucking companies.
So question: is your son a company driver, or is he in their Contractor Division (their name for lease purchase drivers)?
