I’m 30 pretty much gotten nowhere in life. Feel like trucking may be my last resort for a career. Right now I’m a line cook making 28k per year but looking to make more as this isn’t sustainable long term.

I was thinking of trucking but came to the realization even if you make 30k for example you still have to pay for showers so say 15x365=5,475 so now you’re at $24,525. Then you also have to pay for parking as I assume the company doesn’t reimburse you so what that’s another 4-5k per year? So now you’re at 20k, I’m sorta feeling defeated after learning about the showers and parking not being paid.

Plus I also assume you need to buy your own tools and equipment etc so I don’t know. Trucking seems good to me on paper since I’m extremely introverted and don’t mind my own company but the pay for new drivers doesn’t seem ok.

I want to do OTR starting off I want to do tanker or hazmat but since I’m new I don’t think I can do that off the rip so was going to try flatbed and try moving up from that, but I don’t know anymore.

    Could use some advice

Do you plan on staying out 365 days straight?

No that was just an example. I mean I want to stay out as long as legally possible as I don’t have much going on in my life so it seems like the time to stack up some money which I should’ve been doing along time ago.

I don’t really care about home time. If I can get home once a month just to checkup on my place that would be enough other than that don’t mind sleeping in a truck the rest of the time which would require 353 days of showers and parking.

Most truck stops and rest areas are free
If you take food and cook in the truck and stay out of restaurants, it’s not bad also you’re not showering everyday, most MAJOR trucks have reward cards that give you perks when you shop there, the big ones usually give a FREE SHOWER for every 50 Gallons of fuel, and you also get points that can be used for in store purchases

Plan to cook my own food coming from a former fat ##* don’t want to go back. The reward cards sound cool but still seems like a lot of pay is still coming out of your own pocket, idk.

Get a planet fitness membership, black card for about $30 a month. The shower are ok. You don't have to pay for parking, I always find a place to park in most cities.

You don't have to buy a fridge,.contrary to popular belief. You can use microwave inside the truck stop. Some drivers are stupid, and they feel like they are forced to pay $20 a night for parking. They have to pay for the $20 combo from Popeyes chicken. I hate Popeyes because it is expensive.

I thought buying a fridge/freezer and cooking your own meals would be cheaper?

You don't have to buy a fridge. I meant to say, you won't starve to death. Unless you really enjoy cooking.

But I think there are option for dry food. You just have to be creative. I would use beef jerky in sandwich, or make quesadillas. You can leave cheese out of the fridge for maybe a few days.

There are a lot of ideas for cooking with dry foods. Maybe one of those butane stove. But there are a lot of ideas.

Honestly, I'm one of those stupid drivers that spends too much money on restaurants lol. But I enjoy traveling the country and eating different places. But I definitely try to avoid paying for parking.
