I wonder how often trucks are broken into and what safeguards can be used.Im sure when you are going to be away from it,you try and take your electronics with you but also wonder about things like being broken into while in the truck.Pepper spray, steel pipe and a dog come to mind. Thanks

i have known some truckers to use a tie-down strap (with hooks at each end) for keeping the doors closed. here basically is how it works. you tie one end of the tie-down strap to the inside door's arm rest and then tie the other door as well. if someone were to try and open the doors, they can't. some guys use the seatbelts to accomplish this as well. simply wrap the seatbelt through the armrest, and buckle it. but if you happen to have arm rests mounted to the seats, then tie the seatbelts around those instead, as well as the tie-down straps.

if you have a tractor in which there is the "usual" vent window, then buy vent window locks at the local truckstops, and use them. the vent windows are usually pretty easy to break open and gain access.

always leave your windows rolled up, and your doors locked. this goes a long way in proving that you did indeed lock it up properly, especially to your company and the insurance people.

only if i were going to be turning in a truck for another truck, would i unload my stuff. otherwise, its crazy to constantly re-load the truck each time my weekend is over.

if you are inside the truck and someone breaks in, this gets tricky in the legal department of things you would use for protection, and everyone here will have an opinion, and only an opinion regarding that, so be carefull as to what you "listen to" when they give you thier opinions..........

Im guessing that you only do this when in uncomfortable places. Not everywhere.Im just worried about expensive electronics mostly. As far as being inside when broken into, well, theres no telling what I might do.It wont be pretty.I loathe thieves.

any place can be "uncomfortable" even places that have cameras and patrol cars...........

    everyone "loathes" thieves.............

and if you got "expensive" electronics, you're buying them at high dollar retail stores. shop around for lower prices. then too, if i were to ever hear you on the cb radio saying you're nearly "broke" every payday, i'll come back with something like, "where are you spending all your money".......

i ain't broke every payday, in fact, i have to give some money back as i get too much stuffed into my wallet................:smt043
