Maryland is another one you don't want to get caught with a weapon in a vehicle. Any northeast state really. None of them uphold or respect the 2A.

Avoid US Concealed Carry Association or USCCA, they are just an insurance policy provider and they are as likely to just cancel your policy when you ask for help as they are to follow through with the benefits, like finding you a lawyer who does gun cases, etc. Some of the cheap outfits won't handle your case if it involves criminal charges, just civil liability.

Ive seen good reviews of a place called Attorneys On Retainer. I don't recall the monthly cost, but for gun charges, they act as your attorney, and not just offer to pay up to* some policy limit (if they don't cancel your coverage) and wish you good luck. Masad Ayoob a recognized gun expert mentioned another similar service of attornies that specialize in gun charges and have trial experience on gun cases. It's a bit like pre-paid legal services for gun/self-defense.

For myself, it was twice; once in Harlem, and once in a rest area on I-95 in S. Carolina. The Harlem setup was when I was stopped at a light, and I just blew my air-horn, ran the light and high-tailed it up to the Cross-Bronx as quick as possible. The South Carolina rest stop already looked sketchy, and I was keeping my tire beater bar on the tray. When the guy jumped up and put his hands on my door, I hit his fingers HARD, causing him to fall backward and onto the pavement. Put the truck in gear and ran as quickly as possible. I must've at LEAST broken some fingers. Far all I knew, he could've died from a concussion. Oh, well.....

IF you get caught with an unregistered hand gun in Mass.
The automatic punishment is by law 1 year in jail, no probation, parole, time off for good behavior 365 days.

The second amendment right is often misunderstood, just like the 1st amendment can be misunderstood. I found a great website that explains some of the legalities. called {Legalclarity,org/what states can I carry my gun to or through} Firearm Owners Protection Act (FOPA) provides a “safe passage” for transportation. FOPA allows individuals to transport firearms from a place where they can legally possess them to another, regardless of state and local laws in between. For FOPA protections to apply, the firearm must be unloaded, and neither the firearm nor any ammunition can be readily accessible from the passenger compartment. In vehicles with a trunk, the unloaded firearm and ammunition must be in the trunk. For vehicles without a separate trunk, like an SUV, the firearm must be in a locked container. And perhaps this is where people can get into trouble if pulled over and a weapon is found in their possession if it is loaded.

Several people have been prosecuted by the anti-2A states despite FOPA. FOPA doesn't prevent a harsh state from prosecuting someone under state charges.

I'm an excop with LEOSA protection, and I still don't carry in the truck. NJ, NY, MD and IL will arrest on felony charges. They don't care, and you lose your job, equipment, etc.

NJ even frowns on hollow points.

I guess they want your defensive shot to go clear through the attacker and possibly hit somebody else.

Yeah, a .22 can travel over a mile and kill someone.
.380 is deadly in a pistol
12 gauge is skin from bone
9mm is armor piercing with hollow points "cop killers"

Just to keep the thread on track, don't carry, unless you know the laws.

AR15.com has an excellent subforum on carry laws and reciprocity between states, and also has practicing attorneys that moderate those forums. They also have attorneys that moderate those forums who have litigated 2A court cases before state and even up to the Supreme Court levels. They were involved in Bruen vs. NY.

VCDL is also an excellent organization that can clarify.

I carry bear spray, for multiple reasons, I go out west, but I still would probably never spray it in the interior of my truck, if I carry a pistol it goes in a lock box in one comp of the sleeper and the ammo and mag will go in the other compartment, the chances of me heading to NY, NJ or any of the other communist states is lower than zero but IL I frequent when I am on the road and want no trouble from an inspection.
