Job site pics

Been in some ugly stuff myself. This former NFL player decided that he just HAD to have a house up on the side of a mountain in central Arizona, and it HAD to begin construction in late November and that he HAD to move in by summer of the next year. Lucky me, I get to be the chump delivering all of the material in the dead of winter.

You can see the house up on the hill, it was a good 1/4mi drive on the 3 wheel forklift.

 

Dang man I hope you charged extra for that work in the winter.

Now if'n ya had a REAL truck, ya could have got it up there to the house!

 

This was a recent job I got to do...

Had to back in off the road onto a built up gravel path...back up to a pit, and dump. The driver ahead of me got his nose off the side and got stuck...needed to be pulled forward...and then didn't back all of the way up to the pit and dumped the fine product (lime kiln dust) all over the place. Now if it was just about anything else, it wouldn't have been much a problem...but this stuff flows like water once it gets disturbed. They probably lost 1/4 of the load trying to push it off the path into the pit so I could back in and dump...wasted a LOT of my time

...but you can see how much of this stuff was wasted from the previous driver's load


There was a slight bend in the gravel path which made lining up to the pit a little tricky....doesn't look TOO bad from this angle....


...but you can see, I had to have one eye on the trailer watching that it wasn't leaning too much, and the other on my left side wheels to make sure the road didn't crumble too much beneath me


All in a day's work. I actually ENJOY jobs like this...where you have to THINK about what you are doing and get things just right for it to work....wish this sort of job came around more often.

 

Do you haul logs??

 

Used to...and would do it again in a heartbeat.

Don't bother me a bit. I was working one job last summer that DID pi$$ me off, though. My truck was making it in and out just fine...but everyone ELSE kept getting stuck. So, on my last trip in there, they decided to stop me on the road in...and of course, once I was stopped, I was stuck. I was tempted to put the bed up right where I sat and tell 'em "ya shouldn't have stopped me here if this wasn't where ya wanted it"...but that probably wouldn't have sat well with the carrier I'm leased to.

I enjoy the challenge. Anyone can run interstate highways and dump on a perfectly level concrete pad. I like the jobs where I have to look the site over and develop a plan...and then execute that plan flawlessly. I can usually make it look pretty easy.

I love hauling logs, it's definitely different every trip. I was going in on an extremely muddy track, a fellow was back grading the road with a skidder and of course not paying attention. He was backing straight towards me, I started blowing horn, he didn't stop. I stopped then I was stuck and couldn't back up, I just sat there holding the horn and watched him back into my truck with his skidder. Wasn't a good day. LMAO
