I have been doing a lot of research on buying a truck to Hot Shot part time as I still work a full time job until I retire in a few years. I have just found a really good deal on a F250 ford with a 7.3 Godzilla with 3.73 gears 6.75" bed. The truck has the towing package and Hill Descent on it. Now I know the 6.7 Diesel and a 8 foot bed would be better but its what im going to have so I gotta go with it. Can someone please give me some advice on what i should try and tow, or companies that would hire me. I will able to tow Thurs even through Sunday or Friday evening through Monday and I will be working Four 10's at my full time job. Better to pull bumper or 5th wheel. Can I tow lighter loads if I chose? What is the current pay? I read last week that several people are towing using the Godzilla motors and have no issues.

Do a lot of research before you commit. With you working 40 hours , you will only have 30 available hours in a 8 day period. Hot shot isn't predictable ( emergency freight). Does not seem doable with you still working a full time job.

I could give you endless reasons why you shouldn't but, I'll be brief:

    1) Don't try this
    2) Insurance $15000 per year.... 30% upfront. A new entrant will be more than that.
    3) You need 6 months minimum of available cash on hand before you get your first load
    4) Hotshots are a huge target for DOT
    5) You need a guarantee in writing or a contract before you even buy a truck
    6) Loads from load boards are the trash that's left over that nobody else will take
    7) Even big companies are going out every month right now. Some are reducing inventory. Some filing bankruptcy, etc.
    8) Part-time trucking is not even a thing... there's a reason for that.. It wont work..

I could post enough reasons not to do what you're planning, to run the internet out of bandwidth... but most people have to learn the hard way.

    Good luck.........

    Here's a scenario for you.
You pick up a load on Friday for a Monday delivery.
You break down Saturday evening halfway to your destination.
    Parts aren't available until Monday.
    Which job gets hosed?
