Hi I'm a newer driver, I have a bit over 15 months of OTR driving flatbed, reefer, and vans. I'm currently with a mega carrier and the pay is not great. I prefer to "live" in a tax free state. I'm not tied down to any particular city or state. Currently I have a Nevada class A. I have the X endorsement and my passport. I don't particularly care what I haul. I was thinking about buying a fixer upper house in Amarillo, TX or Memphis, TN. Something I can make nicer over time. I would like to know, where is the money?

    Lonesome Thanks this.

Every sector of trucking has money in it. Some pays more because it’s harder work, weirder hours, higher investment, greater risk, but you better believe it pays more for a reason. Sometimes it depends on who you know, or how hard you are willing to run. I personally think the crybabies that don’t want to run more than 10 hours a day are insufferable. Currently we have the worst rates possible, we all would like more moola!

The money comes after 35 years of driving, at which point you'll want to retire early, but won't be able to because of all the medical conditions you'll have from 35 years of driving.

How much do you gross on average per week where you’re at? What are your expectations for pay that would keep you going?

    We all measure success differently..

Florida is a tax free state..if you like alligators and snakes :)

15 months and you've done flatbed, reefer and dry van. Was that all with one company?

There's so many nice areas to live in Tennessee, I would highly recommend staying away from Memphis. Unless that's your kind of scene. I hate to even drive through that dump. I would recommend Cookeville/Crossville area right off I40, easy to get home when you need to and beautiful area. I lived near Crossville, TN and also Sevierville, TN. The house I bought near Crossville was an excellent investment, it was a repo that needed some work. I bought in 2015 and sold it recently, then bought another repo in Mississippi with a bigger house and 5x more acreage.

You're on the right path investing in real estate! That's where the money is at! I know this is a not-so humble brag, but anyone can do it with a little determination. I'm attaching the Zillow screenshot of my house sale, redacted to not doxx myself and then the chart is the home I recently purchased. The lowest dip in price is the sold price (the green dot is asking) I lowball about 50% of asking, after it has been sitting for months and the banks start lowering the asking price. The banks want to get them off their books, so they'll negotiate and I end up getting 40%+ off asking price.[IMG]This is my 4th house and I've made a profit on all of them.
