Trade schools have been the way to go for far longer than 5-10 years. As long as there are cars and trucks, houses and hurricanes, there will be a need for the trades.

Picked up a Penske Lease Truck. Asked the Lady about a job. She said they require a College degree. HA!! I bet she’s disappointed.

There isn't a thing wrong, with going to college, and furthering your education. But, like everything else in life, you have to have a plan, and a goal. You know, start with the end in mind.

How many people go thousands in debt, to go to college, without a clue as to what they want to be, or where they want to end up? Switching majors every 6 months, taking the wrong classes, etc? Predatory lenders? Sure. But clueless people are the majority of the problem.
Just like L/P's in this industry. Tell someone without a clue that they can be their own boss, that they will own a truck, get the best rates, choice of runs, etc, and the line to sign begins to form. No one wants to do any research into these companies, and then they complain loudly when they find out how things really are. The same with college. "I have to study?" "I have to take those 3 classes? ", "Well, I'll just change my major to something a lot easier", which may or may not lead to steady employment.

Don't forget all those people who were going to drive the big rigs and make big money while being an owner operator at Prime and the like with debts they can't pay.

I didn't watch the video but saw the thumbnail for one yesterday with a picture of a trade school and a tag line that said it's not a shortage, it's a retention problem. I think I've heard that mentioned before....

Any advice about how having an MBA would impress prospective employers. Nobody would view me as anything other than a cashier even though I already graduated. I let this slide for too many years, too many times.

I just remembered this scam. FTC Enforcement Action Leads U.S. Dept. of Education to Forgive $71.7 Million in Loans for Students Deceived by DeVry University
It's happening in trade schools too, the race to the bottom happens there too.

This is the opposite, the best advice. Back in the early 70s my uncle told me “never ask what you hauling” ha ha ha

I’ve got some good advice: change the oil more often than they say to and don’t ever leave the truck stop with a pending #2.

“Everybody should go to college” was definitely bad advice though.
