Everything you basically need is within walking distance. When I actually lived in that one, before renting it out, I bought a used car. Kept the car for maybe 2 or 3 months and sold it. Don't need a car there. Cabs, busses, subway, train within walking distance. Wait for a cab averages about 5 - 7 minutes and same wait for city bus. City bus fare is .35 cents USD. Bought a motor scooter which was fun and used for quick runs to the grocery store or just cruising around.[/QUOTE]
It would be really nice to find something like that. I think anything that is walkable around here has a pretty high premium. Cars are expensive! I wouldn't mind living without one.
I'm sick of this!

With your spirit of adventure, you could do well buying those cheap homes in Japan. Great night life in Japan also.Last edited: Jan 19, 2026

My sister and I like to gamble, and we go mainly to 3 casino's near us. One is 10 miles away, one is 45 and the other is 100.
Really need a car for that.
We have stores nearby, but when the temp is 16 degrees things get more difficult.
In the end it is a question of whether the cost is worth it to you, and if you can actually afford it.77fib77 Thanks this. -
Nice! I had no idea there were Walmarts in China.

He also has a $6000 one he remodeled a little. Apparently he didn't listen to the naysayers and is making it happen.
This guy had to paint the exterior, replace the water heater and clean up some. -
And way overpriced. Looking at the history, this sold for $375k last June. Right on US70, near Interstate 75, outside Knoxville. Probably won't be too many quiet nights, especially when there's a wreck on 75 or 40 (which happens quite a lot).
MattaCracker Thanks this. -
Yeah, I haven't looked in a while, there's a lot of junk on Zillow that's way overpriced. People are trying to escape other states and sellers are trying to capitalize on it, can't say I blame them.

There' were also Home Depots in China, but none of them survived. Not many people were interested in doing their own home repairs when the local handyman can do it and furnish the supplies needed, cheaper.MattaCracker Thanks this.
