Have noticed that the fleet has almost doubled here at their air hub.
Still got their contractors lined up on the back fence.
Times are getting a bit tuff all over.

I don't think it would be contractors. There is a rumor on the ltl site that all economy will go onto rails.
All RKI district regional management were in town this week visiting DSM, WTL and MCW centers. Talking up the split from FedEx and the Freight salespeople. The salespeople is a good idea but should of been done years ago.
It's not the only problem in dsm but we've lost a ton of runs to kcy. Atleast 15+ runs without people being able to follow freight down.Gearjammin' Penguin Thanks this. -
I’ve been hearing those same rumors about rails being utilized more. If I remember correctly, DSM doesn’t do rails at all, which would explain why more freight is being routed to KCY.Hawkeye72 Thanks this.

That would be correct.
A lot of the rums have been the DSM-DEN meets in Odessa. Which you might of done once or twice, if I remember correctly, you (jmz) ran out of Den. Have been moved to KCY-DEN, that was close to 6-7 of our runs.Last edited: Jan 20, 2026

Amazon’s LTL offering reaching out to shippers as possible customers: report
What does everyone think about this latest Amazon LTL news? Seems like they are serious about moving forward with it this year. -
Are they gonna actually pay the driver's?
-
I'm as optimistic about Amazon entering LTL as I would be about Oracle or Microsoft doing it.
-
When you hear libs moan about inequality, this is part of it. It's not just Elon and Trump. There are around 350-400 anti trust lawyers at the entire DOJ.
Amazon alone has 800 full time lawyers.
We know how this goes. A Dem will eventually be elected, mount a feeble anti trust probe. It will be hung up in the courts for years. And Amazon will get what they want. They'll use cloud computing profits to drive out trucking companies.
So, what can we do? We're all in a real life catch 22: Own the big tech monopolies to share a portion of the capital gains, while simultaneously supercharging our own career demise.
We have no choice but to be cynical afGearjammin' Penguin Thanks this. -
What are you talking about? How did we go from Amazon starting up a small LTL network from scratch...to now talking about politics, antitrust laws and Amazon killing trucking companies?Banker, McUzi and Old_n_gray Thank this.

You may not be optimistic about it but if Amazon decides it’s profitable and/or supports their business model it will be done. Amazon started an air and ground network from scratch 11 or so years ago to deliver “some” of their own packages and now the volume of just their own deliveries is more than all of what UPS or Fed Ex (not just Amazon packages) deliver. 3/4 the total packages UPS and Fed Ex deliver for all customers combined.
I still cringe when an Amazon trailer passes me, but after they get safely past me I am thankful that trailer is part of the reason my retirement income is equal or greater to my full time working years.
In 2013 or so I read a Wall Street Journal article about Amazon wanting to take volume away from UPS and Fed Ex by delivering some (1 billion worth of transportation costs) of their own packages. Initially I thought there is absolutely no way they can deliver that many packages. After reading more and more transportation related articles about Amazons plans I sold roughly $175,000 worth of UPS stock and bought Amazon. Similar to Berkshire Hathaway, Amazon is extremely diversified by owning many different companies allowing for many sources of revenue with ownership of that one particular stock.
If I didn’t know anything about transportation (38 years currently) I would have never entertained buying Amazon stock regardless of how many articles I read about their plans because I wouldn’t have been able to foresee the eventual value.Last edited: Feb 4, 2026
