I guess the money is all relative. My last 10 years were in LTL for a mid-level company. My last few years I hit 6 figures doing linehaul. I had enough seniority to get the run I wanted- just under 2700 miles per week, took me 40 hours to drive + 5 hours of BS. Breaking $100k and sleeping in my own bed every day? That's good money here in the middle of corn country.

There are some good and bad ones just like any other area. I personally had a good experience working for Serbian lady and was the best ever-paid me for everything, paid my workman's compensation, gave me free reign as where to run, where to fuel, load to haul etc but that was a rarity. She sold out due to health reasons. The vast majority are shady I would say requiring escrow which is often not returned along with last pay. You need to find out about contact fines and other driver deductions also. Some often want you to run around Chicago getting repairs done on equipment for no pay. If a company has no shop or yard of their own, you will probably find this to be true. Also, the treatment by most I talked to/know was substandard. Just be careful and ask all the questions first. If they won't provide transportation at their cost-don't bother with them.

The question of the day is for those who are doing 1099.
How much do you set aside for taxes?

Well you’re doing better than most.
A lot of folks who do 1099 don’t take into consideration that they have to pay taxes on their income. All they usually see is that they’re making a lot of money but forget that Uncle Sam wants his cut..
    Plus penalties,plus interest..

Me personally if I was doing that given the fluctuation on the interest rates nowadays I would probably put 30% as a “safety cushion”.
We’d be lucky if the Feds gave us prime!
