I don't especially hate Buc-ees , but I won't go out of my way to stop there. I've only been to 2 of them one South of Macon, Georgia and one in Alabama. Both times my wife and I were on vacation and both times the place was like Walmart on Christmas eve. I the people traveling in a non familiar area are likely to stop at Buc-ees because they are basically all the same and plenty of clean restrooms. It's someplace where they know what it'll be like instead of a run down gas station in the hood owned by Derka Derka.

I. Don't. Care. Never been to a Buc-ees, never will go to Buc-ees.

Been there it's not bad. Along with the BBQ there's lots of beef jerky. A lot of touristy trinkets and do-dads for sale think of it as a Pilot or Loves only 10 times larger. Everything is pricey but they can't give it away and stay in business. It's always crowded. I don't really care that they ban semi-trucks from it. If anything that's actually a plus and keeps the customers coming. Nobody likes the smell of a pee-lot on a hot summer's day. If trucks were allowed in there the parking lot would be an open sewer and/or much worse in no time.

Exactly, truckers would be welcomed with open arms if every other truck stop didn’t smell like piss, have hookers trolling it and people leaving their trucks parked there as they go home.trucker-chase and OldeSkool Thank this.

People in the West in particular like to be told how to live these days and where to shop and what to do. I see a pattern. They get wrapped up in their cookie cutter life and they stopped going to the mom and Pop shops and patronize sterile places like Bucky’s and Walmart. Then they go on a vacation or they go to a small town somewhere and it’s like they snap out of their trance and they think I want to live like this, where people are personable and interacting with each other, and they have little unique shops and stores and restaurants, no chains. People are sitting drinking coffee, talking to each other, pulling up a barstool and striking up a conversation. It’s in these moments they realize what has slowly happened to them. This is why literally 99% of people who “get out” who visit places like Thailand, or little quaint European towns and communities, Return home and want to go back to these places immediately. They start setting up their lives to try and live there if they can. It’s not because they have some built-up superior culture or country etc, in fact it’s the opposite. It’s places where people still openly interact with each other. And there are little private mom and Pop shops that are unique and inviting. And humans crave this they just lose sight of it. So how does this all apply to Buckys? (And yeah, I know I spelled it wrong, but I don’t care.) I avoid these places as much as possible. I go to the mom and pop shops and restaurants and such as much as I can. Yeah, I am a truck driver. I work out on the road. I still go to Walmart. I still go to Costco. But if I can avoid it, I will.Lonwolv54 Thanks this.

I worked by the Buc-ee’s in Daytona for a few months, and I think it had just opened. I remember watching the price of the BBQ pork sandwich go from about $6 to over $8 in just 3-4 months. Stopped going, except for the cheap gas. Which if you factor in the hassle of all the crazy four wheelers and mindless pedestrians, it ain’t a steal enough for me to bother lol. Always willing to pay a few cents premium at RaceTrac for not having to brave the chaos that is Buc-ee’s.Lonwolv54 Thanks this.

What’s sad is all the little Mom and Pop stores that went out of business during Covid. Drive around Vermont. It’s a perfect example of people that were extremely concerned about Covid and today many of the little shops are closed down that had been open for many years. My home town has the oldest continuously run general store and it shut down during Covid for the first time. Now everyone goes to Walmart.
