My company issues ice cleats to all drivers. They arent as big as those though. Easy slip on and off.Cobrawastaken and drvrtech77 Thank this.

I got a couple pair of cleats. One set that fits around the middle of my shoe (issued by company) the other one is a full wrap around of the bottom of the shoe. I prefer those actually, they dig into the ice better.

Yesterday was a nightmare. I started in Mississippi and it was smooth sailing, sunny, and in the 40s to begin with. Once I got to Monroe, LA I came to a complete stop for about 2 hours because they were still clearing accidents from the road from the storm. For some reason, the local police decided to let everyone just jam up instead of directing traffic off the highway. I would have sat there longer, but I was finally able to exit off I-20 and hop on US-80 to get around it. At this point I was not going to make my delivery appointment in Denton so I let dispatch know and decided to drive a bit to get away from the worst of the aftermath and find somewhere to park. There was still another jam that was moving about 2mph for a while after that too. Turns out there was a bridge with a 6in layer of ice in part of the left lane so everyone was taking it slow to get across that. After that, it was pretty smooth sailing again but the temp started to get below freezing so I was cautious about black ice. Never saw a single truck salting the road all night either. After checking 4 truck stops that were packed so full you would think they're hiding from a monster that eats truckers, the 5th truck stop had a spot for me. I got a message this morning that my delivery was rescheduled so hopefully I can finally get this load off tonight. No preplan yet.

I made the decision when I left the house yesterday to take 20 to Dallas instead of 40. Sometime in the day yesterday CDLLife posted about the drivers sitting in it for 30hrs. Of course I was almost in Birmingham when I saw it. Needless to say I watched the DOT page and nearly every facebook post I could find regarding the jam.Knucklehead Thanks this. -
Just made it to Denton and I'm in a door already - 2.5hrs before my appointment. But it's a grocery warehouse so being in a door doesn't necessarily mean anything lol. I'm not holding my breath.
I got my preplan earlier before I got here. Pick up in Dallas going to Grandview, WA. 40 miles empty and 1913 loaded.Knucklehead, ducnut, Speed_Drums and 8 others Thank this. -
You get to go to Washington state and don't have to deal with Seattle or I-5? I say that's a win any day of the week.
Did you ask in orientation if they let you choose your own routes, within reason (like within a 100 mile difference on long loads)? I never liked driving through New Mexico, the truck stops suck in that state. -
I'd check the forecasts but this time of year, I'd be tempted to go through New Mexico to Gallup and run up 451 to 191 to 70 to 6 to I 15 to I 84. Isn't 10 miles difference and you miss Wyoming.Knucklehead, FullMetalJacket, navypoppop and 1 other person Thank this.
