Well we are about half a dozen finger tight bolts away from having this cab stripped down to the bare frame. Time to clean it all up, spend a few hours doing some fabrication work, then primer/paint and start sticking some new panels on. Hoping by mid-late summer to be at the point of putting the dash and all those goodies back inside.

If anyone ever wondered what an old A model cab looks like stripped right down..... Screenshot_20260128-181849~2.png

I understand what you mean. I am doing a rebuild on a 1980 A model and I thought about a thread and realized how much additional work it would be. I've taken quite a few pics but that's about it. I appreciate you doing a thread like this. There aren't many.

I've never seen an A model cab taken down that far. Very cool. My build is not nearly that ambitious. The only noteworthy thing about mine is possibly the Pete big hole conversion. I bought the truck at an auction with the 60" walk in sleeper missing. I found a 1978 36" crawl thru. I'm sure this has been done on an A model before, but I haven't seen it. I put one in my 1997 W900L and it was much easier. The sleeper goes on for the first time in the next few days. Definitely following your thread. Thanks

Thanks. I might but I was trying to post pics while you sent this and realized how computer illiterate I am. I won't do any more hijacking on your thread.

    Feedman Thanks this.

Noice! What's it got for power?

I thought about putting a short sleeper on this truck but I don't really see the use of it for what I have planned. It'd just take up frame space, add tare weight and add more time and expense to the build.

I started a thread thanks to you. lol We'll see how it goes. It's got a 3406A. If this truck had been a day cab I would have left it alone. But sitting in the shop looking at it, having a few beers and a cigar and well- you know.........

Mine's got the 375 hp 3406A coupled to a 15 speed. I'm debating switching the 15 out for a 9 or an 8LL though. I don't need deep reduction for what I plan to do.

My truck has an RTX1409 if I recall. I would sure trade you if we were close. I think a 15 deep reduction is what I should have for a water truck. To bad you can't use my sleeper cut for your cab - I would throw it in.
