Cell phone violation: when do I have to tell my employer?

Immediately after getting the ticket ... the longer you wait the more pissed your company is going to be.

 

Did you receive the ticket while in the company vehicle? If they have a zero tolerance for cell phone usage at your job and require you to report any tickets within 24 hours of it's issuance... give a goodnight kiss to both cheeks, sir. The cell phone isn't part of the Smith System zoning. You'll have more time to pay attention to your phone without having to worry about that pesky job now

 

Since your company is not a court of law, telling them that you got a ticket for something before you are actually convicted is basically admitting your guilt to them.
The cell phone thing? Fired on the spot, go home.
And if you do beat it in court don't expect to get your job back.

You are not legally guilty until convicted, and until convicted the company does not need to know about it.

It may be splitting hairs, but don't cut your own throat.

Note: Date of conviction, not date of citation.
I worked for one company that had in the driver's manual that you had to report any "citation" within 30 days. So, maybe company rule can be more stringent?
