I currently work for J&R Schugel. They didn't turn the company over to outsiders. J&R is a family owned company, and they simply passed its management down the line.
It's a great company to work for! I worked for them before, and when I decided to come back to driving it was a no brainer who to call!
I've worked for lots of companies. Most of them you'd know....like CR England, US Xpress, Landstar, and others.
This company DOES care about its drivers. You can walk right in and talk to anyone in any office...all the way up to the president of the company.
Since I'm the "mom and grandma" I took 8 days off at Thanksgiving after having been out for a month. My dispatcher was awesome about it. In fact, he doesn't even schedule a load for his drivers who are home until he hears from them.
I hurt my shoulder on my first trip out, and I've been off work for 5 weeks now. The company has kept in touch, and done all they can to get the things I needed like an MRI.
If you're looking for a trucking company that you'll feel like you MATTER to, this is the one to call!
    As for safety ratings....
Yeah, ours stink right now. We're all working on improving them from management to the drivers. I'm sure if you check some other company ratings they'll be as bad or worse than ours.
Personally, I really ENJOY driving for Schugel. I can't WAIT to get back to work!
    :love1:

I'm here. I just didn't see a reply 'til now.
I do like J & R Schugel. I'm still off work. I got the MRI results back, and it shows I have a torn rotator cuff.
You know how some companies will INSIST you do light duty work, even when a doctor wants you off work? JR hasn't done that with me. My doc put me off work, and all I've heard from the company is they hope I do well and return soon.
I keep in touch with my dispatcher, Pat. He's an awesome guy!
I"m totally bored at home!! It hurts to type so.....
Even on workmen's comp I have NOTHING bad to say about JR.
Anyone out there work for my company, too?
See ya soon and Happy Valentine's Day!

I looked more into them and although they sound real good I can't work for $.35 cpm. I don't think they should hire someone with 6mo experience for the same as someone with 15 yr exp. I think personally that has something to do with there poor safety rating.

You're probably correct about the safety rating. I've looked into other companies that pay more, and I've worked for companies that paid me a LOT more. As a company driver, I'm not willing to earn .40 a mile and take the chance that I'll be sitting in truck stops waiting on loads, delivering in the Bronyx, or being forced to run into Canada. At my .35 cents a mile I can count on at least 2500 miles, but more correctly it's I can count on all the miles I can log. I can also count on being part of a team that includes everyone from housekeepers at the terminals to the CEO of the company.
I hope you find the company you're looking for!

Just saw your post on the torn rotator cuff,I hope if they have to do surgery that it goes better than mine.
my first surgery went off without a problem.until i started physical therapy about 3 weeks into that i started to have soo much pain that i went back to the doctors and he scedueled another MRI and found that it retore,so back under the knife again, more P.T. and 1 year later and my shoulder still isnt right but im going to court the 22nd of this month to settle this :smt038 :smt038

My problem is more with the fact of getting hired fr the same amount as someone with 6mo experience. Sorry but I'v been driving 12 years, I'm a diesel mechanic and I'v owned a small fleet. I feel I'm worth more than someone who went through a swift school 6 months ago.
I have a good job but I'm always looking to upgrade however that is getting harder to do. I make $.43cpm, $25 for every drop, $25 perdiem, 2500 to 3500 mile a week (usually around 2900 and I'm home fri, sat and sunday) plus I get $15 for any detention that holds me more than 1/2 hour (including drops that I already charged $25 for) 3 weeks vacation and usually I don't haul frieght but when I do I don't have to touch a dock

my other problem is I'm fixing to move to TX and will need to go with a different co at that time. Unfortunatly this one is hard to live up to

I have read everything you have said about J&R and it has helped me a lot. I am here now in Columbus as we speck lol. I was terminated from Schneider for having artifical knees and I called J&R that day and said yes we will take you as long as the doctor says its ok for you to drive. Well I am here and so far so good I like everyone here and the trucks are so nice.
Hope to hear from you soon.
