I usually parked my truck and trailer in a police impound/tow yard. It helped knowing the sheriff and the guy who owns the tow company. Lol

You are absolutely correct! I just left because of 200 dollar paychecks and very poor treatment.

Wow you guys just burst my bubble about Holland. I've never worked there but a bunch of us who fled Marten about 15 years ago included a guy named Todd who emigrated to Holland.*

He was really happy there and stayed many years. In 2014 we bumped into each other at a big cold storage place in Quincy WA. Anytime I saw a Holland truck I always thought - like drivers tend to do when they know someone who drives for this-or-that company - "maybe it's Todd!" This time it actually was!

Below-average mileage pay at Holland was always the stopper for me. I've never cared much how friendly my fleet manager is. You get me the miles, I'm happy. If you're friendly too, great, but it's far from mandatory.

My first job after Marten was Poly Trucking out of Grand Prairie TX. They're a plastic bag company. Whenever you're in Grand Prairie they offer you different loads to choose from. They have above-average mileage pay, pay is off the hub, and they give you a 10% out-of-route cushion for personal use - which gets paid, because after all it's on the hub.

The worst thing about Poly is their equipment. When I left in early 2012 they were stocking up on cheap Internationals with no upper bunk. I'm willing to sacrifice some pay for decent equipment. Great pay and horrible equipment that's only moderately well maintained isn't my cup of tea.

*Instead of just introducing per diem pay in an honest way, Marten management - probably Randy Marten himself - felt the need to scam us instead. "More pay in your pocket!" There are plenty of old posts here on the topic. Most are mine but others posted about it too.

200 paychecks at Holland in Fargo? First I've ever heard of such a thing. From my experience they were great and I was always pre planned. As long as you do your job and go wherever whenever they will keep you moving..also top notch shop and equipment. Lots of good long runs. Has something changed?

Have you talked to Todd* lately? Hopefully he’s doing well. I know he had some concerns that pulled him off the road.

“Below-average mileage pay at Holland was always the stopper for me. I've never cared much how friendly my fleet manager is. You get me the miles, I'm happy. If you're friendly too, great, but it's far from mandatory”.

As long you’re getting miles, doing the job they hire you for, they really don’t have any issues there. Yes I had my times there, but that was mostly due to equipment failures. Sometimes you have to take trash out, to get to the treasure.
I don’t know how his attitude was there, but if he was treated poorly then he probably said or did something to warrant it.

Todd and I are FB friends and he posts there quite a bit, but we've never corresponded privately so that's the only way I get info about him. I don't recall ever seeing a post of his about leaving Holland, but I know he was happy there for a long time, so I figured he probably just retired by now, as opposed to having something negative happen that drove him out.

Based on what I've heard about Holland it sounds like we'd be a pretty good fit. I'm savvy about maximizing my hours under the current HOS rules and prefer to run lots of miles. When I was at Cheema Freightlines in 2020-2023 which had over 300 trucks at the time, month in month out I got more paid miles than anyone else, usually beating 2nd place by around 1000 miles. Three times I made over 17K paid miles in a truck governed at 65.

In December I hired on with a smallish dry van company called Acme Transport. Happy there so far. Almost all of my runs have been cross-country ones from the Pacific NW to Florida and back.

You should definitely apply there then. He was definitely happy there as was I. I went regional then local, but if the long haul bug bit me again I’d go back to Holland.

Holland will have you making decent money if you will work. Give them your best and if you are making $200 a week after trying hard then post what happened. I doubt the Holland team has any drivers making $200 a week unless you got 6 kids with child support or a tax lien?
