You probably mentioned it before but what engine does IRT run in their Petes? Oakley runs Cummins in ours, and I haven’t heard of any derate issues. Usually the most common problem I hear is a transmission fault when the shifter and transmission stop talking so sweetly to each other. Sometimes also a leak from somewhere.
Those are some good miles, stay safe out there!!Friend, navypoppop and Tanker_82 Thank this. -
I have a 116 series Peterbilt. Knock on wood, I haven’t experienced any derate issues with this one. Although, I did have the warning message popup and go off on its own a few minutes later when I was in North Dakota last Winter. It was single digits and bordering negative temps that night, though. I’m assuming the cold was causing a sensor to give a false reading. “Transmission fault / shifting restricted / seek service” has came and gone a handful of times. Our old shop boss Bill told me it was common and to keep running it when it happened the first time. He said it could be the stalk on the column when that happens. I’ve always had good luck with my trucks. One hotel / dealership visit every 18 months or so has been my record. Hopefully, I don’t jinx myself by typing that. (chuckling)

Right on, that’s interesting! I had pretty good luck with my last Oakley Pete (P45## unit). I got that one with about 120K or so on it. Besides the shifter issue, it was a pretty good truck. They just stuck me in a P47## unit (same spec and everything) with 92K on the odometer. Think they only used it as a loaner when someone else’s Pete got stuck in a shop. My last one got placed out of service after a dumb four wheeler lost it on I-4 and dented my fuel tank (then blamed me for it which didn’t work lol). I lost the integrated TPMS for keyless entry and I upgraded to the big mirrors, oh yippee lol. I’m hoping this new truck runs well too!! Fingers crossed. Got a load of palm oil destined for Texas.
My in-transit heat lines hadn’t been used before. I got to cut the zip ties off the other day while pumping off some thick fry oil (the heat makes the difference between literally an empty tank and a foot of heel). The brand new brass fittings on the ITH and hydraulic lines are super nice lol, they screw on/off like butter -
I have had engine derate issues on 3 of the 4 trucks I have had here. My latest truck only has 20k on the odometer so it hasn't happened...yet.
My previous truck had to be towed to the dealer with only 30k on it due to DEF fault derate. I am hoping this one doesn't suffer the same fate.Friend, jarhead0311 and trucker-chase Thank this. -
Anyone here get consistent OTR miles or have you experienced the pattern of an OTR load, then a couple regional runs, then OTR again?
Friend Thanks this. -
So I see I'm guessing Canadian IRT loads gives possible good miles for those drivers. Currently up in Houlton Maine which is next to Canadian at the top of i95 and there is a IRT driver parked here.
Friend Thanks this.
