Running 4 trucks and I swear half my driver callouts are childcare related. "Kids sick""daycare closed" "babysitter cancelled" - you know the deal.
Lost a solid driver last month because he couldn't make early AM pickups work with getting his kids to school (single dad). Now I'm thinking maybe I need to offer something to help with childcare costs or finding backup care or whatever.
Anybody with a small fleet doing this? Does it actually help? I heard there's a tax credit that covers like half the cost.
Was digging through the Amazon Relay deals and discounts section and saw they added some new childcare provider. Just trying to figure out if this is worth investing in.
Childcare benefits - worth it for small fleets?

Well, talk to your accountant. I think there is a 10% write off on Child Care benefits for you, but it depends on your structure and the benefit.
-
It's 50% if you offer cost assistance Employer Provided Child Care Credit - 45F
-
Do you offer child care benefits at your company?

How does childcare benefits solve any of these problems…. "Kids sick""daycare closed""babysitter cancelled"

When do you stop? It’s this, then that, then something else, and on and on. It’ll never stop. What’s worse is you’ll continue accommodating and drivers will keep on leaving, regardless of your efforts. Don’t guilt yourself into doing everything possible to accommodate people who got into this industry, knowing they have other obligations more important to them than the truck. They got into the wrong business. I know that sounds harsh, but, this industry was here long before those who demand coddling and accommodation. Those types have no loyalty, anyway. Keep your nose to the stone, while keeping your eye on YOUR end goals. Employees can choose to follow you or not.

It’s a real problem. I know a guy that quit driving and took a good pay drop to take care of his kids more. I’ve been married 11 years and my wife takes care of the kids but nobody wants to do that anymore.

No, I asked the drivers about it a few years back, and it was rejected. I have a few who are single parents, and because the system is set up to allow them a lot of flexibility, and we have others who can cover loads, it wasn't needed.
10% is the number my accountant said it would be, not 50%, but then that was before the last changes. I would recommend you talk to your accountant and lawyer about the liabilities involved, but also come up with a driver retention program to keep people in the truck.bryan21384 and GreenPete359 Thank this.
