El Paso International Airport (ELP) is currently closed to all flights due to a temporary flight restriction (TFR) issued by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) on February 11, 2026.
The restriction halts all flights, including commercial, cargo, and general aviation, effective from February 10 at 11:30 PM MST to February 20 at 11:30 PM MST.
The FAA cited "special security reasons" and classified the airspace as national defense airspace, with warnings that aircraft violating the restriction may be intercepted and potentially met with deadly force.
The closure affects El Paso, Texas, and the neighboring community of Santa Teresa, New Mexico, within a 10-nautical-mile radius around the airport, extending from the surface up to 18,000 feet.
No official explanation has been provided by the FAA for the closure, and airport staff are awaiting further guidance.
Travelers are advised to contact their airlines directly for updates on flight status, as all operations are suspended.
The War on Drugs may be moving to the states is the reason given.
Edit: CNBC is calling El Paso and nearby New Mexico a "No Fly Zone". They will actually shoot down any plane seen flying in this area.
