I would wait until you have 1 year+ at current employer, especially if you had job-hopping in your past. I would not expect to find an employer that will let you stay home more than about 5-6 days, even if you worked for 6 months before time off. They have to pay for the truck and missing more than a week of work is bad economics for the company unless they haul high-paying freight. Companies hauling high-paying freight often can pick high quality drivers.ducnut, GreenPete359, bryan21384 and 1 other person Thank this.

This (above quote) is a tough pill to swallow -- but it's rather accurate.

It's funny how they consider up-time for the truck only in terms of total home time, but not on how long the truck stays running between home times.
My company said that for every 6 days out you got 1 day of home time.
Basically, 1 day per week.
Stay out 4 weeks and get 4 days at home.
But it seldom works out that way unless you take home time more often, rather than less often.
Some terminals had a policy that if you took more than 3 days off (a few even said more than 2 days) you would have to clean out your truck and had to be reassigned a different truck when you came back. (Care to think about what condition that truck might be in, and how long of a wait time to get it?)
And it didn't matter how long you had been on the road making them money, the down time was all they cared about instead of the total up time vs. the down time.
It's sad that there are not set and defined rules that are enforced company wide.
Individual terminals, it seems, can make their own rules in many cases.
And that is just one of the reasons that company gets bad comments, versus the good comments.
My advice, if you decide to work with them, is to be based at one of the smaller terminals - if possible.
The larger the terminal, the stricter the rules and the more impersonal they become.
I consider myself lucky to have always been based out of the smaller terminals, with people that are more like family.
Nearly 14 years with that company, with some of the best people I have ever worked with. -
This one, you get home-time you want, in writing, before hire.

Ahhh I see they finally changed their website. As an employee of this company, everything that is advertised on the website is dead accurate. No fluff, no frills, just honesty. 2 weeks out, 2 days at home. I stay out longer and on occasion have got more than 4 days at home. I can't sit at home that long so usually after 3, I'm ready and recharged. Also, I always get home on time or earlier than requested. So yes, after more than 6 years here, I can say they're accurate. They definitely don't promise what they can't deliver.Chinatown Thanks this.
