Leave it on, especially if you get a lot of calls. Other wise you have to turn it on all the time when you get or make a call. The stand by hrs of these things is amazing.
As for the pairing issue.... Some times mine acts flaky but if it keeps doing it you might check into it being the phone or sending the unit back. These places are pretty good about warranty long as you pay the shipping.
Once you get used to it, you'll hate to part with it for warranty.
I take mine with me every where. Car, pickup, sitting at my desk etc.

10-4 on the leaving it on thing.
About 3 times by now it has simply refused to connect to the headset when I answer or make a call (from standby mode), and thats in the course of about 10 days. I have to turn the headset back off, and then on again, and then it will eventually reconnect itself. It absolutely refuses to let me switch from the phone to headset if I am already in a call, and vice versa.
I did figure out that once I turn the thing on. Just set it down for at least 30 seconds while it reconnects to the phone. Otherwise I screw it all up by pushing buttons lol. Just like an elevator, pushing the button more than once aint gonna help it get there any quicker
